I actually thought the same thing about the surface. Box and info says 2000, looks to be more like 4000. I tried it as it was first, and I'm glad I didn't change it.
To answer your questions, I have a Pink Panther that's drilled almost identically. Very similar in my opinion. The difference is the Panther has a touch more mid-lane, and not quite as drastic a move off the dry. What that translates to, for me, is that I'm able to throw the Espionage a little deeper into the set.
The sport pattern that I threw it on was 42 feet, heavy volume. The Brutal really didn't have enough midlane, the Panther had a little too much, and not quite enough a move on the backend to kick out corners for me. The Espionage was perfect. I threw it comfortably for 3 games and didn't sacrifice carry at all.
As far as overall hook, I'm almost able to play the same line as the Brutal, maybe about 2 boards less, but definitely has a more readable reaction. Not as skid-snappy.
I'm honestly very happy with this ball. It's hit is impressive. The sound is different. That's always a good sign. My pink panther throws pins around like this ball does, but with a little more entry angle that the Espionage gives me carry is better. Great ball.
