Info. on the Burgandy Hammer
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:05:46 AM »
I have never seen a Burgundy Hammer in action. I have a friend that is bowling and called me to complain about it. He told me another bowler is using one and has destroyed the shot. He said that the guy is all over the place with it. Can you mess up a shot with this Burgundy Hammer ? He told me someone else had complained about this ball earlier in the year. Is my friend just crying or is there something to it. Thanks

He's just crying over split milk, so to speak.

Like plastic, urethane balls absorb oil at a MUCH slower rate than resin balls. So, IN THEORY, both can pick up oil and leave some of it further down the lane, creating carrydown. In actuality all balls have the potential to add to carrydown AND to dry up the area where you are throwing them. So your friend's resin balls are doing as much as, if not more than the Burgundy Hammer at destroying the shot. Resins will dry up the area faster than urethane will create carrydown. Plus more people use resin than use urethane.

He's just a whiner, like all bowlers are at one time or another.
Honestly, in my opinion, he doesn't really have a case.

Thanks Charlest. I don't focus on other bowler's  bowling balls much. I focus on mine and what it is or isn't doing. I guess there is always something for people to complain about when it comes to bowling. Thanks again.

The Burgundy Hammer was the most porous and hooking Hammer in the urethane era. The balls were so porous that the balls were prone to cracking & chipping during drilling if the drill bits were not sharp.

My friend just found one on the house rack that he's having plugged and redrilled. I'm anxious to see how he does with it.
