I was recently able to acquire the following two balls. Faball Hammer Purple Pearl Reactive Nail and a Faball Hammer Blue Pearl Urethane Nail. (Just so there is no confusion, these were the balls approved in June 1998. I have not been able to find out much information about these balls. I have had very good sucess with a Visionary Red Sorcerer on the right lane conditions. My thoughts about these balls when I first thought of buying them was that the purple reactive would be a good ball when there was light medium to light oil. my thoughts on the blue pearl urethane was that it would be good when the heads got fried on med. to light patterns or under very dry conditions.

? Any thoughts and or comments on these balls from people who have used them WOULD be highly appreciated as I have no clue as to reactions, conditions or even ideas on drilling them (these are NIB''''s) Thanks in advance for your input. KEN

PS Did lichsteins make a guide for the Faball balls released in 1998?

I was never able to find a Lichstein 1998 ball review. However, I do have some other stuff from around that era which does have some comparitive information. I have thrown the Pearl reactive Nail but that was about 8 or 9 years ago. It was a great ball back then but oil volumes are much heavier now so it would be a dry lane ball or "up the dry boards" on a THS. I'm sure that the Blue Pearl urethane Nail will be useless on today's conditions. I can save you the agony and frustration of trying to make it work if you'll just sell it to me cheap.

Pretty much. The nonporous nature and hardness of the urethane Nail should make it quite allergic to oil on synthetic surfaces. Might still come into play on poorly conditioned wood lanes.

Let me save you the effort of having another paperweight...I'll buy it even cheaper

I love when people underestimate the different look that one can get with older urethane...you can camp outside of five while everyone else fights for a line.

hey michelle,
you are absolutely correct about the feelings towards urethane!!! i have a pin under visionary red sorcerer that even with two coats of polish it still has a nice move on the backend. as you stated i can play up the twig ( boards 2 - 5 ) and score consistently while others cannot find a line. this weekend i shot a 701 ( 3 games ) with urethane. that is why i got these two balls so that come tourney time i could use them under the right conditions. ken
