I was late in drilling my 3D but just felt like I needed an arcy ball that could fit somewhere in the middle of my bag. As a bowler with a lower track (more sidespin), I am always in search of options to smooth out my down lane angles. Drilled the 3D 40x4.25x45 (pin is partially through the ring finger) to help accentuate that smooth, arcy type motion.
The 3D has probably gotten more play than anything else in my bag so far this fall season. It does a great job of blending the lanes by not over reacting to the dry, yet being strong enough to not over skid through the oil. What impresses me the most about this ball is that despite being a pearl, it is neither quick off the friction or sensitive in oil. I have used it in both my Challenge league and house shot, plus have had it out during tournament play as well. In our challenge league on the Women's Open 2022 42' pattern I am averaging just over 220 and this ball has been in play every week but one. The smooth, predictable ball motion has allowed me to swing the lane and not worry about seeing sharp ball motion on the back end. One thing to note is that this ball comes at 2k out of the box which is uncommon for a pearl and I have touched the surface up to keep it just a pinch duller than what it would be laneshined.
On our high volume house shot, the 3D has come into play in the third game, once my Verge or Polaris Solids begin rolling too soon. The move after a 4 or flat 10 with the aforementioned balls would be a switch to my 3D, camp my feet and soften my speed a pinch to get the ball to shape. There have been times where staying straighter and firmer has worked on more wet/dry lanes, but slow hooking the lane has really looked good with this ball.
I recommend the 3D to bowlers of all styles and skill levels as a great middle of the bag ball. This ball looks great on medium volumes of oil from all kinds of angles and is playable on a wide variety of patterns. I really see the 3D as a really safe middle of the bag ball that will be effective for a lot of bowlers.
