15 or 16 pounds?
« on: July 01, 2006, 04:25:25 PM »
I was just wondering what did u guys think on 15 or 16 pounds.  I am currently a bowler who was thinking of switching from 16 to 15 but i dont know yet i want to get some feedback first.

What my question is how many of u went fom 16 to 15 or 15 to 16 and how was it, if u went from 16 to 15 did u lose carry or was it the same.

HammerBowler,

Could it possibly mean that he throws Hammer equipment and is therefore looking for like minded people to offer opinions on his question?

To answer the original question. I moved from 16lb to 15 lb's a few years ago and I find that I still get the same pin action that I did before. The only real difference is that I don't get tired after six games like I used to. Just watch the tendency to make your backswing longer due to the lighter equipment.

I used 16lb equipment for a very long time.  I dropped down to 15lb about 1 1/2 years ago.  I'm very happy I did.  I didn't loose any carry that I could notice.

As already noted, you will only notice that you dont get tired quicker, unless you do like me and try to throw it harder just because its lighter.

IF there's no real reason for you to switch weights, don't bother.  This goes against the Rules of Ballreviews, but it's true.  Unless you are experiencing fatigue by throwing 16#, or some kind of pain directly related to it that you know for sure will be solved by dropping a pound, then there isn't any point.  Just recently I actually switched from 15 TO 16 because personally, I find that I have a better release using 16# (I tend to maniuplate 15# too much, so 16 forces me to ease off).  But the key word is personally.  Switching weights will not have magic effects.  Like some of the people say they gain stamina by dropping a pound.  I myself haven't noticed anything; I can still bowl over 25 games with as much ease as I did with 15#.

Throwing 16# is a double edged sword, though.  You can buy stuff from ebay and here for a lot cheaper than you would a 15, but the reverse is that you can't sell it for as much.

Recently went to 15 lbs. after a bout with
tendinitis.  I have found no less hitting power
and more control.  A plus all around, you will
find a lot of your better bowlers including the
pros all have gone to 15 lbs or less to increase
the control element and lessen the stress on their
hands and wrists. I would suggest trying 15 lbs.
chances are you wont go back to 16.
Good luck.
