Acid Review
« on: November 18, 2008, 05:33:26 PM »
Upon receiving this beauty late last week... I wanted to drill it for the Regional tourney this past weekend, but I waited. I love the mix of the colors & look of this ball going down the lane.

I drilled this ball on Sunday afternoon with a 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 drill pattern pin under my bridge & CG on midline (1/2 finger & 0 side) & left the cover as is (4000 Abralon).

This ball is simply AMAZING! This ball definately has both qualities of the Anger & Psycho, which are my favorites. The Acid is much cleaner through the front than the Anger & stronger off the breakpoint than the Psycho with a strong backend finish. This ball fits in between the Anger & Psycho, which I feel is what was missing from the Raw Hammer line.

I used this ball during the 9pm travel league where the lanes are very dry. While I was able to use this ball during the late shift for all 3 games at box surface, this ball might be a little too much for the standard bowler unless you apply polish then you will be able to use this fine piece of equipment. With the drill pattern that I have, it seems to get through the fronts with ease, but a very strong midlane roll with a very strong backend finish.

Then I used this ball on my Tuesday 7pm league (fresh lanes - pattern 38' house shot). When using this on the travel league where everything that I use hooks, I wanted to see what this ball will do with more oil. This ball execeed what I thought it would do... all this ball wants to do is continue to roll strong. I tried to throw the ball past the breakpoint and I could not do so... which is saying a lot since I throw the ball 19 mph with 475+ rpms.

I think this ball can handle more oil if needed by changing the surface with 2000 or 1000 Abralon & can handle drier conditions by applying polish.

I think Hammer has hit a home run with this winning combination of the Anger cover with the Psycho core!

To add to Plowboy's review:

The ball is simply amazing as he stated! The combination of the Anger cover and Psycho core is pure art in motion. The motion of the ball is very clean throug the heads, with a solid midlane read and strong, yet controllable reaction off the break point. The out of box 4000 Abralon finish helps it get down the lane without sacrificing ball motion. Hitting this ball with 2000 or 1000 even, will help it achieve a great motion in heavier oil. Powerhouse Factory Finish will help more for the burn.

Layout: 4 1/2 x 3 (pin under ring), very small 1/2" x hole 4.5 inches out on midline.

The energy retention of this ball, even with the more aggressive layout is quite impressive. It turns the corner like a Psycho but has the smooth midlane roll from the Anger Cover (Max hook Reactive). The Acid seems to be about 3-5 less in the front than the Anger, but makes up for it with its strong backend reaction from the Psycho Core. This is a definite fit right between the Psycho and Anger and is in definite contention to be Hammer's Benchmark ball.

If you feel like your psycho is too jumpy off the break, but can't change back to your Anger because it might overreact, the perfect fit is the Raw Hammer Acid!

would you guys agree that if you drilled an acid the same as a psycho, that you would have a good 1-2 combo? i have a friend who loves his psycho, but when the lanes are a little tighter, his psycho tends to skid too much. he has pretty good speed and loves to play up the boards.

looking to get him something to use until they break down a little.

It would seem to me that if this ball is THAT good then you should be able to make a solid 4 ball arsenal out of:

Anger
Acid
Psycho
Rayzr

In expensive but will cover most potential league conditions, yes???

Barry - thanks for the kind words!

dballz - The Acid will be what your friend is looking for! The great thing about this ball is that you can actually move deeper when the lanes breaks down with this ball & it still has the muscle to turn the corner and kick the pins around a bit.

Doug - The four balls that you mention will compliment each other very well however, I might suggest the following the Sauce as well as the Anger too.

Follow up from the 1st post on this ball... I have thrown this ball the past 2 weeks and have not thrown anything less than 707. I have played with the surface and this ball performs great at 2000 abralon for med-heavy conditions if needed. I truly enjoy throwing this ball and cannot wait to drill up another beauty with a longer pin position. I feel that most bowlers will really enjoy the way this ball rolls & will be a great addition to their arsenals!

this balls sounds really good, i may have to try one myself. i am looking something to compliment my sauce.

sauce is drilled:
4 1/2" pin down, 70*, oob

maybe do an acid, 4 3/4" pin down, 75*, a little polish on it. what do you guys think?

I understand your complaint with Ebonite, as I am a loyal customer to my proshop. But you keep talking about the acid and it all ready being avaliable on bowlersparadise, but its not its a preorder second you keep talking about it only being 84.99 but you are forgetting to add the 18.95 for shipping as well, so in the end its 103.94. I understand the fact that you have been lie'd to (atleast from what you are saying) but if you feel so strongly dont stock ebonite balls, there are other companys. I just dont understand why you wont tell anyone what proshop or where it is? And you can go ahead and bash me like you have everyone else on the columbia forum thats fine because that speaks volume about you as a person not me, maybe you should look at yourself and your customer service then your customer would buy from you and not online. Just a thought

how would i want to drill this ball if i wanted a long and strong motion on the back, not skid flip, but strong continuation. i understand that this is symetrical so the standard asym layouts dont work right?

ek11sx... I would try to get a 3-4" pin out ball with 3oz of top weight. You can drill the ball with the pin 4 1/2 - 5" from your PAP & the CG 1" kicked out, and this ball will be what you are looking for. I will be drilling up my 2nd ball like this as I would like something similar than what you are looking for.

This ball will be released next week and you will definately love the way this ball rolls & looks too.
