Advice on DOOM
« on: April 06, 2006, 04:27:58 AM »
Hello all, today I will be recieving my first performance ball..the Doom Raw Hammer.  Im sure a lot of you know about this ball already as I have seen tons of reviews on it.  I just need a little bit of advice on how this ball should be thrown.  I have been using a #14 house ball, throwing lefty, for the past 4-5 weeks averaging anywhere between 130-160.  I use a cranker style by cupping the ball in my hands, only putting my finger tips and half my thumb, to get high revs on the ball...but only because I feel that I need to since its a house ball.  I let the ball curve out the 15, into about the 3-5 and back into the pocket.

The ball will be drilled with the most basic of layouts (thats what my proshop suggested for my first ball)

Will this style be okay with the Doom or will I have to lower my revs and switch to a more conservative stroke?  What is usually the best track for this ball under medium to dry conditions?

Also, on a side note, what would be a good spare ball?

Thanks a lot guys, this community has been great!

Well since you will be fitted properly, you can still
throw the ball with the same amoutn of revs. As long as your fingers and thumb is in the ball you will be ok.

I'd say get a plastic ball for spares.

I would suggest making sure your ball is drilled finger tip.  If you have a finger tip grip you can put your thumb all the way in the ball and still get a good amount of revs.  I would spend most of your time trying to develop a solid approach and release.

Great ball choice for your first ball.

Yes, I've read up on the different grips and already told my driller that I wanted fingertip grips.  Going in today to get fitted and drilled then off to the lanes.  Im gettin this ball for 160 + tax complete with drilling and finger/thumb inserts, I like to believe that that's a good price =).  I'll keep u guys updated.
