Ball choice help!?!?!
« on: March 08, 2005, 09:12:29 AM »
Specs are in my profile (along with current equipment and layouts).  I'm looking for a skid/snap reaction on heavier oil patterns (currently have a goliath for heavy oil arc).  I want to stay away from particle... need a strong solid resin with a strong core.

quote:

I have not had much success personally or my customers with anything from the Ebonite factory besides the V2 line. If you read the Ebonite side of the forums, you probably have read that I don't like the "E" shells at all. Don't get me wrong, they make excellent cores for E balls and Hammer balls, just the shells are terrible.

From a previous post, I have to agree.  Based on past ebonite experience (primal instinct, apex intensity, apex aggression, tpc player), I have strongly disliked the ebonite covers.  Have always said they have some of the best cores....
Anyway, I think its about time I dip my feet again and give them another shot.  Hopefully I won't have the same results....  So my question is, which ball in the current line-up would work best to give skid-snap on heavier patterns?  The next question is... is the cover any good, or is it similar to some of the above mentioned balls (and some people may think those are good covers...).  Would it be the big deal?

Thanks,
S^2

The Big Block Diesel out of the box gives me a good skid/snap on oil, and the hit is tremendous. I'm also a high track player... give this one a shot with a full roller leverage drilling, and you'll be ok!!

Strapper- take a good look at both the Real Deal and the Big Deal, some good reviews on both.  I throw the Real Deal and this ball flips hard on the back and never stops.  I understand that the Big Deal is a couple of boards stronger and has a sharper entry angle.  Just my 2 cents.  Good luck with your search.

thanks.. I looked at the core numbers and the real deal seems to have a little lower rg and littl ehigher diff...  site didn't say anything about mass bias strength, which I assume would the be biggest factor here.  I would guess (just from looking at the cores) that the big deal would have a stronger mass bias?

The cut-throat cover is pretty strong then?
Thanks,

Just bowled a PBA regional on pattern "B" (shark), and I didn't fare very well, but I was happy with the Big Block Diesel. I started out throwing my Full Throttle, and that wasn't doing the trick for me. The BBD allowed me to play in and reciver nicely. Like I said earlier, take a look at this one.

I understand you are wanting to stay away from particle, but if you are talking heavy oil, you are severely limiting your # of choices.  I am currently bowling on a 46' sport condition, and EVERYONE else is throwing dull stuff down the ball track hoping their balls has enough on the back to carry the corner.  I am the only one who is throwing shiny stuff.  I am starting with a High Rev, somewhat mid-laney ball, but it is reading the pattern great!  It is reactive and rolling fantastic.  Also, what I would recommend more to you is the Big Deal.  Although it is particle, it is a light load, giving you a high mass bias, Great length! and very strong backend reaction.  Shine the ball a bit just to give it a little glare, not like a marble, and you will certainly love it!!!

Even though it is an Ebonite ball, I can highly recommend the TPC Player for sport shots. Incredible reactive ball, (but) very release sensitive. You can tweak with the coverstock to make it fit to almost any lane consition except for dry or too short patterns.

Dunno what went wrong with yours, maybe the drilling was not O.K.? The Propeller core of this ball has a strong influence on this ball's reaction.

If you are looking for skip/snap, I would get a High Rev with a 3-4" pin and 3 oz of top weight.  I would polish it up to get it to skid/snap.
