BBPearl feedback
« on: February 25, 2005, 04:31:19 PM »
My brother is trying to sell me on the Big Blue Pearl because he says that it's controlable.  Does everyone agree?  What problems have you encountered? How is your ball laid out? Let me know

My experience with this ball is that much of how it reacts depends upon the drilling.  Mine is drilled with the pin just right of the ring finger, mass bias is directly under the thumb.  I get a very controlable read and good mix and hit.  My son has one drilled with the pin over the ring and the mass bias 1/2 way between his thumb and VAL with a weight hole and his ball gets decent length but then really kicks up on the back end like somebody kicked it, much harder move than mine.

I agree on the drilling.  That makes a world of difference in reaction.  I have 2 BBPs.  One I got from D Scott Johnson, LOL.  (Glad to hear you got another!).  One of mine has the pin over the bridge, and MB to the right of thumb hole.  It turns sooner than the second one and sets up before it hits the pins.  Almost like a Sling Blade.  This would be great on more oil, but forgiving on shorter patterns.
My second one has the pin over the ring and MB to the left of the thumb.  Much more length and a harder snap.
Hope this opinion helps!!

it's controllable, but depending on how many games your brother has bowled with it, you may not see the full potential of the ball. I've had mine since the ball came out and it's dead now. I use it for dry lanes now. The big arch is gone.

all the bbp's I have drilled have had 4-6" pins and have been fantastic.  I did see one pro shop locally drill one for a customer who had never been to them before and they drilled it terrible.  A "label" drill ( 3X5 ) was used and this guy does not get consistent reaction.  Nice to treat a new customer that way, but I would stay away from stacked pin placements or anything closer to your pap.  Just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps.
