Black Widow Bite Layout/Surface
« on: November 23, 2010, 08:55:21 AM »
Getting a nicely used Black Widow Bite from a guy on here.
What layouts have you had success with and what surface works the best?

Just gathering some idea's before I plug and re-drill it.

I'm a LH higher track player with with med-revs, have never tried any of the Black Widow series, but excited about it.

Going to try it on in two different centers.
Center 1 is more typical THS, 40ft., Med oil
Center 2 is 44ft. THS, on the Heavy side, but can dry up and carrydown in any given week.

I too am a LH, High tracking, medium revs, above average ball speed kind of guy.

I at one time had a Black Widow Bite in my bag.  I had mine drilled pin left of the ring, cg and mb stacked below.  I'd give you measurements, but I don't know what they were haha.

I didn't like it as much as the Solid, but it got a decent amount of use.  I left it in the OOB surface.  The best success I found with it were on longer oil tournament patterns and house shots with somewhat tamed back ends.  For me the ball had a crazy amount of back end when I first started tossing it.  It was hard to control.

I have one and it is one of the most versatile pieces I've thrown in a while. I'm RH, medium revs (300 rpm), fairly low track. Mine is drilled with pin above bridge, roughly 4" to pap for me, MB kicked out. I've found that less surface works the best ie 4000 grit or higher, and/or polish. The ball gets easy length, very readable in the midlane, and a strong arc on the backend. I've found a lot of success on harder shots with this one.

I think it's a very versatile piece. Try your favorite drilling, and match the surface to the conditions you want to use it on. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I think want some polish on this one.
I know that Hammer just started putting their surface's on their newer equipment, but what to do underneath the polish.
1000, 2000 or 4000.
I'm thinking 4000 w/Powerhouse polish.

I've had success with 2000 and polish or 4000 with polish. Very versatile cover and takes well to changes. Experiment and have fun with it. Great piece and benchmark for me.
