Black Widow....duh duh duh
« on: December 23, 2006, 03:08:17 PM »
Okay, so I'm sitting here looking for a new ball to purchase with my Christmas money.

I have a perfectly good NIB Black Widow sitting in my room already, so really I don't need to buy something new.

My thing is, I need a ball for a medium oil house shot.  Is this ball polishable if needed?

P.s. Damn you people are crazy on here. God forbid someone doesn't full explain something or the get their head chopped off!

You are acting like there is a huge base of people here. Don't say you will get a higher product rating without polish.

All polish does is add length or reaction to a ball. And you say the ball changes hugely.

Do you even own the ball?

SGC300 why when I was reading in another post you said that you have seen a toxic but the backend would kill you, so you got another doom.  And your asking if you should drill a widow when everyone says it has a big backend. Just wondering?

I Said "Do Not polish the Black Widow", because for MOST it doesn't work well. I have hear from very very good collegiate bowlers who bowl around the country say it doesn't work well.

Sounds like they don't understand surface management.  Although they may be good, collegiate bowlers aren't the authority on ball management.  I've bowled with/against quite a few who weren't that knowledgeable about ball dynamics and surface changes but were helluva bowlers.

The BW works very well polished. It's the only choice for the DC area because of the way the heads break down.  Doug Kent had a great reaction with one at a regional here.   I suspect that some people are polishing it on top of the 4000grit box which could make it too squirty on higher volume heads (pretty much any ball would have that problem).  However, taking it down to 800 or 1000 grit before will eliminate that.  As with any ball, surface management must take into consideration all factors including the bowlers release, speed, and lane conditions.

"In general.. a person is better off just getting a different ball instead of polishing the Widow.. Theres a high percentage chance that it'll NOT work for you." Where do people get this

Well from what I've seen on the Toxic, it would work well for me on one shot.  A Standard House Shot.  Also I'd have to swing the heck out of it.  I have thrown the Doom, and I liked it.  It did have some pretty decent back end to it, but it was controllable on the right condition.

I really don't know what to expect out of the Black Widow, which is why I am asking.

Thank you for your responses.
