You could tell if it was truly plugged. There would be more distinct lines around the circles. That looks like funny coverstock patterns.

Definitely not the prettiest ball ever, but I don't think the thing has been plugged.  Poor mixing, I'd say.

I got one that looked like that. The pro shop owner told me it was a blem, and gave it to me for $140, drilled. It has the same markings as yours.

yeah i got it new from buddies and those definatly look like small plug marks from coverstock repair.

i remember my first bowling ball had been destroyed by playing on really bad lanes and the bowling alley made small drill marks and plugged them and it looks really close to what this looks like, but i paid for a new ball :/

Buddies ships from warehouses so there's no way the ball was in a pro shop and had a chance to be plugged. If you have a problem, please contact Bill or Chris. They're awesome will help you the best they can.

yeah its obviously not plugged from being drilled for a player, it looks like it had coverstock repair done before it left the factory. like its a blem. and yeah buddies is great. I'm sure they will take care of it, I just wanted some verification on what those marks were.

Companies don't plug balls before they leave production. A ball requiring that would never hit the market, even as a blem.

I don't see how any bad mixing would cause perfectly round circles like that, and there is one part in the picture where it looks like a big scratch was drilled through several times then plugged. my ball that had coverstock repair done looked exactly like that. they drilled the holes several places in the crack to make the plug material didnt fall out.

if all black widows dont have these markings, something is cleary wrong with this one.

I had a NM Beat'N come in that looked like that. Cleaned it, took a drop of lane oil on my finger, touched it and that's what it looked like after the oil soaked in.

Not saying it's not a blem, but IMO, it's drops of something from the factory that got on the cover.

I did a quick Clean N Dull on the NMB and all but one spot went away.

I sent an email to Brian Graham at Hammer Bowling with your photos to see if he can explain this. I'll post the answer when I receive his reply.

mystery solved, some clean n dull removed the dark black circles and also removed all the blue looking stuff all over the ball that I thought were just weird markings.

its strange how defined those circles were, i tried some normal ebonite cleaner on them before i posted this and it had zero effect on them.

ball spinner and clean-n-dull and it looks like a different ball now though.

thanks for the replies.

Those are where the ball sits and waits to be packed. the funny looking tint on the cover is where the ball absorbs the moisture in the air. There are no ill effects in the ball when its is like this.  It is part of the phazing process.
