Current Benchmark Hammer Ball
« on: August 01, 2007, 06:38:27 AM »
Guys,

What in the current line would you consider the benchmark ball to be?

I'm looking for something similiar to a High Rev in reaction shape and oil ability.  I've seen Widows & Mercys and would not consider them to be benchmark balls, but a step up from benchmark.  Does the Anger or the Beat'n fit this, or are they too strong?  By the same token the Widow Pearl and Toxic/Doom are too angular...

Thanks for the help,

Bill

I would think that an anger with a longer Pin to pap would be just what the doctor ordered.

My Blue Vibe is my benchmark ball. It is very smooth and predictable on just about any condition. And it doesnt flare alot.

The Vibes don't handle enough oil to be considered a treu benchmark ball. A benchmark ball should be able to handle true medium oil.

Wouldn't a Pain drilled semi-weak and say a 4000 Abralon finish work as a benchmark ball?

I dont agree with that.  A true benchmark ball should be able to consitantly read the lane and find the oil lines no matter what condition is out there.

"no matter what condition is out there"????
No such ball ever did or ever will exist. That is not what a benchmark ball is.

A bench mark ball is a ball that allows you to read the lane. Its your ball that is the most preditable. In that case i would choose a blue vibe.Blue vibes can handle more oil than you think.

If you have a lot of revs, maybe, just barely maybe, but I still cannot see how you could call it Hammer's benchmark ball.

I dont know.  But when a staff member that knows his stuff speaks his mind about a ball he knows quite a bit about, I tend to listen and believe what they say.  The Blue Vibe IS stronger than most people think.

They don't really have a true benchmark ball.  I personally find that a benchmark ball is something that handles medium oil and has a smoother reaction.  Thus, it is subjective based on revs, ball speed, tilt, one's pap, etc.  You could call the blue vibe a benchmark ball if you have slower ball speed, and a higher rev rate.  The widow could be a benchmark ball if you have the opposite.  The doom is the closest as far as oil handleing capability for most, but I find it a bit too skid snappy to fit the bill for what I would want (sorry chitown ).

My benchmark ball is now the overtime, taken to a higher finish (box + rough buff, then hit lightly with a grey pad).
