Deadly Aim - Ball Review
« on: February 06, 2014, 01:50:22 PM »
Heya Gang.... After being able to throw the new Deadly Aim on a few different patterns, here is my ball review for this great rolling addition to the Hammer family. PLMK if you have any questions...

BOWLER INFO:

PAP/Track: 5 1/8” x 1” up
Axis Rotation: 25 degrees
Axis Tilt: 12 degrees
Rev Rate: 425
Ball Speed: 15-17 mph

LANE CONDITIONS
Lane Patterns Used: 41' House Shot, 37’ Kegel Kode Pattern, 39’ Kegel Kode Pattern

BALL LAYOUT: 60 x 5 ¼ x 60

COMMENTS

The new Deadly Aim from Hammer is a very impressive ball with the heavy rolls that it provides. I really like the new cover/core combo on this ball and the motion that it provides. The Carbon Fiber in the outer-core is a 1st in the industry and I know that you hear it all the time, but this ball really hits HARD… Hardest hitting Hammer ball to date!

I received a short pin so I wanted to drill this ball to be very strong rolling piece for the heavier medium patterns. I will be drilling up another one of these with a pin up position to give it more length. With the cover prep, this ball does get through the fronts with ease, and provides a really strong, heavy rolling motion through the mid-lane that does not stop. This ball does not quit when moving inside and is hungry for more oil, so I would recommend if you are thinking of moving in with this ball, do it.

Dislikes: Drier lane patterns – there are other Hammer balls for these patterns. The box surface on my ball was a little too strong for THS pattern, so I put a little clean/sheen polish on the ball, and rolls much better. I would recommend this ball for the medium to medium heavier patterns.

With the new 3 year warrantee that Hammer is providing for this ball, this is the BEST bang for your buck!
This ball has a great motion that does not stop rolling in the backend – it really continues through the pin deck!
Very versatile ball…

I'm just surprised that there is not very much talk about the
Deadly Aim...I think it will be a great ball...

I picked up a Deadly Aim yesterday. It was completely unplanned, but I got a deal too good to pass up.

For a shiny 4000 grit cover, I was surprised at how well the Deadly Aim handles oil. The ball revs easily and has better backend than I expected. On release, the ball is very friendly to different hand positions. I could go up the back or come around the ball for different looks on various parts of the lane.

It's a fun ball to throw and deserves positive press.

I hope Michael and some of the others here can help me out here, as I know I'm beating a dead horse when I still say that I'm on the bubble between the Deadly Aim and the Ebonite Pivot.

I posted this in the Ebonite section here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYWkegO04P8&t=2m10s

The way he's throwing it, the Pivot is that strong.

They recently posted a video of the Deadly Aim along with the Pivot Point:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNPdzCVPMyE

What I'm looking at here is how strong off the spot the Deadly Aim and Pivot are, as well as continuation through the pics as it its the pocket. Looking at the layouts he has on both balls (at the beginning of the videos), they appear to be similar layouts..

Michael, you said that you really saw no difference between the two, so could the Deadly Aim be just as strong off the spot and have that continuation through the pins as the Pivot has in this video?

I ask, because I'm looking at one or possibly both balls to take to Nationals, and would love for them to be ready to roll on that pattern.

I am also deciding between these two balls. I am wondering how well the Deadly Aim takes to surface changes. As a speed dominant player, I find that I need some surface to allow the ball to pick up at one of my houses, so I am leaning towards the Pivot unless I hear that the Deadly Aim takes surface changes well.

Brad, I have both the Pivot and the Deadly Aim. Both are drilled identically, with the pin directly above the fingers on the vertical grip line, and the MB in the strong position.

I only have a few games on both, but my initial impression is that the Pivot is the heavier rolling piece, while the Deadly Aim revs up a bit easier, is a little longer, and is stronger off the spot. Out of the box, the Pivot is 1500 vs. the Deadly Aim at 4000, which of course is going to influence reaction.

My initial vision is that the Pivot is going to be first out of the bag on heavier longer oil, and when the shot opens up a bit, the Deadly Aim is going to take over. I'll need more time with both to really be sure.

Bradl.... I have thrown both the Pivot & Deadly Aim, and have to say that what Steven said is correct... the Pivot will handle more oil as box surface, but the Deadly Aim can be used too on heavier patterns with surface adjustment. The difference that I see is that the Deadly Aim is a little more on the backends (3 boards different)than the Pivot.

Both are great balls for their companies... You cannot go wrong with either piece. I have drilled quite a few Pivots for customers & they all love them so far.

My opinion is that the Deadly Aim is Hammer's version of the Pivot with a little more backend due to the box surface. Both of these balls hit like a truck & you can chase the oil deeper if needed & the balls will come back for sure!  But these need head oil to be effective pieces in the arsenal.

Hope this helps...

Hi Michael, I'm a Hammer Pride Staffer for the Virginia Beach VA area under McCorvey's Pro Shop Lynnhaven.  I love the Deadly Aim and the Black Widow Assasin.  Here's my review on the ball.

Pattern:  42 Sport Shot (Flat)
Layout:  Deadly Aim: Rico layout with the extra hole angled
BW Assassin:45x5 1/2x50 with P4 extra hole angled
PAP:  H: 5 3/8, V: 5/16 up
Rev Rate: 350-400
Speed:  14mph

Results:  The ball rolled well on the flat pattern early.  The challenge that I had in our home center was when the backends get tighter.  The ball didn't tip on the end.  The House machine is a Summit and it's nothing like a Kegel or Brunswick lane machine.

I needed another Deadly Aim with a stronger layout to tip on the back.  I tried my Black Widow Assassin in practice, but stuck with my Deadly aim.  Should have just played a straigher shot with the BW Assassin.

Overall, I was happy with my performance and the 2 balls.  I made it to round of 16 match play and lost the 2nd round.  I didn't miss any routine spares and only had 2 opens that were splits.  I would love to try these balls on our PBA Tour patterns.

I hope you have much success with these two awesome balls.  From what I see from my customers, they love the predictability, hitting power, and versatility.

Good luck and thanks Hammer for making some awesome equipment.
