Differences in the blade series?
« on: June 07, 2005, 10:10:18 PM »
Right now I have a Sling Blade and a Big Deal.  I'm thinking about getting some other blade line ball to fit between.  The problem is, I can't really tell or figure out the differences.  Can someone illustrate how these are different?

Switch
Saw
Razor

Or maybe you have a particular recommendation that will fit between my sling and Big Deal.

Razor - Heavy oil, tons of hook, hard hitting
Saw - Med to Heavy, higher hook potential  sharper breakpoint
Switch -  More versatile, less heavy oil, more med to med/lighter oil similar hook but IMO more arc than hard turning hook.

Keep in mind, layouts play a hugh part of all the above, and I'm sure there's many in here have better opinions than mine.

For me..in order of pref:
1. Razor
2. Saw
3. Switch

Ok, then I know this is a "cross category" question, but I have a Zone Classic on the way to fit inbetween the Sling and Big Deal, and from the sounds of it the Switch is similar to the Sling, so I'll throw that one out.  Is the Saw maybe too close to the reaction of the ZC that's on the way for me?  Once I see the performance of the ZC, of course, I hope to use it for medium conditions.  Is either the saw or razor stronger than the ZC, but weaker than the Big Deal?  That's kind of the slot I'm looking to fill.

Sling- Light to Medium Light
Zone Classic- Medium
Saw or Razor- Medium heavy
Big Deal- Heavy

Thoughts on that?  And thanks for the nice answer azguy.

Also, check the Hammer website. They have mapped the movement of all the current balls.

The range between a Sling and Big Deal is like night and day.  There are quite a few balls that would fill that gap.  Power Diesel, give you something smooth.  Big Rig, havent thrown yet, but looks stronger than the Power.  Possibly a Big Blue Pearl too.

Let us know the ball reaction type you are looking for and coverstock type, then we can hopefully narrow the selection down for you.

Good Luck!!!!

The reaction I prefer, since I am primarily a down and in player, is to go long and finish strong.  A continuous hook can cause me difficulty if I'm not throwing it just right.

First of all, how do you like the Big Deal? I ask because if you like teh ball, i would say go with the saw blade. ITs more of a med med-heavy ball. It has teh same cover as teh Big Deal. Anyway, i have a saw blade drilled pin next to ring, cg in palm. (45 degree drill, no weight hole, 1200 wet sanded) I love this ball. I take it everywhere with me. It gives me a beautiful mid lane read, clean through the fronts, and a nice snap to the pocket with probobly the best carry that ive ever had.

What about the High Rev?  I considered that in lieu of the Zone Classic, and could probably still get that instead.

I may end up with this setup:

Zone Classic Red Pin
Saw Blade
Big Deal

I believe that would be a good decent arsenal. The Red pin ZC will take care of the lighter end of the spectrum, the Saw Blade will take care of Med oil, and if dulled med med-heavy, and the Big Deal takes care of the heavier stuff.
