Drillings on Black Pure Hammer?
« on: May 04, 2006, 06:22:02 PM »
Hi there,

I am about to get a NIB Black Pure Hammer, and wondering about how to set it up. My PAP is 5" over, 1/8" up, with 250-300 RPM and ~20° axis tilt. I need it for dry lanes and very short/spotty patterns of 30-35", since anything else I got can be too much and I struggle with my Red Pearl Urethane Hammer (remake) since it lacks a core.

I am thinking either about a label drilling (pin at 4 1/2"-5", probably above the ring finger, CG in palm, MB in track area) or the pin above bridge with the CG swung out to about 60-75° from PAP for length and a rather arcing back end move, not too snappy.

Does anyone have experience with such setups, or what do/did you use on your ball. Addotionally, experience with surface cahnges (polish?) would be highly appreciated.

Ideas and comments are welcome, thank you in advance!

Pin above the ring with the cg in the palm is a great layout for this ball.  I had the black pure with this exact layout and it worked great.  Not too snappy unless the back ends were really flying.  The ball itself is very controllable by nature so I would go with that layout.

Thank you, chitown and belch, great help for me (get my ball next Friday - last of its kind in the local area!). My pro shop owner also "warned" me that the ball was, even for a urethane ball, very grippy and would need some polish if I wanted to use it on drier lanes. So I will get mine shined up with the drilling for good length.

Anyone else? By the way, does anyone know the OOB grit of the surface? Looks like 1.000 grit sanded or Abralon?

I use a pin within 1.5" to PAP and drilled the balance hole on my PAP. The ball MUST soak up some oil or you're initially going to think it's too strong. It will mellow out. Keep the surface at 1000 matte, or at most add a little polish like Ebonite Matte Finish or Extender Polish.

Oh splendid! This calls for a sexy party!
