Dry Lane Ball
« on: April 13, 2005, 01:47:15 AM »
Does any one know what would be a good dry lane ball for a cranker made by Hammer? My next question is, does the Sharp Blade control friction like the Game Time does?    P.S. A DP3 where are you at.

Break out the Pink Hammer...there is a reason they fetch a pretty premium when they are on eBay.

How dry are you talking? I use an old blue hammer and a Pure Hammer. I'm getting a Sling Blade. If you're talking about what I would call "sawdust" conditions, the break out the pink hammer or other urethane just polished,

Hey AL.  If we're talking really dry(like if you're trying to play more up the ditch in Capital Plaza), I honestly don't think Hammer has an answer for that.  From what I've seen of the Sharp Blade, it's pretty aggressive but controlling friction, it doesn't do well unless you're going with a more controlled layout.

For you I would try something with a lower diff and maybe a pin in the palm type drill or 1 or 2 inches pin from the PAP.

The Switch Blade isn't actually all that aggressive.  I put the pin over the ring finger in mine which was almost 5 inches from the PAP and it handled dry very well, but of course you have a much stronger revrate than I do.  The Switch might be the ticket, just drill it to take all of that built in flare out of the equation.

Their dry lane ball is coming in late May so we'll see what it is.

Currently the switch blade would be the ticket.

Heavy handed?  avoid the Sling Blade.

I don't know if I will get the Sharp Blade now DP3. I just remember what a WMB drilled weak did for me when there was to much friction. I threw David's WMBs and I controlled the friction, and the lanes where broken down. The WMB are V2 with a a@#. P.S. I m talking about (RiverDale).

I remember I subbed one night in Riverdale and after a 180 first game with a Blade Particle(which was just too strong for all that friction and wouldn't finish). I made a 4 board move right with my feet and eyes and went to the Switch Blade and was pretty much dialed in the rest of the night, I went a respectable back to back 220games.  I think it might be the ticket if you want to stay with hammer, but for anyone looking for control on lighter patterns, I'd suggest anyone a Hot Rod Hybrid.

If you throw 15's...then MadMax has a ball that might work for you:

Nasty Nail ExTreme 15lb 4oz, 2-3" Pin, 3 1/4oz Top

I was thinking of picking it up for myself, but I've got enough stuff to drill right now.
