First Blood

I know it's been out for a while, but I won one at a tournament and really haven't gotten a good feel for it yet. Do you Hammerheads that have one, feel it is not a ball for much oil? Seems the best look I get with mine is on the dry side of medium. Use it on any longer or oilier shot and it's weak. Any thoughts guys? I love all my Hammer stuff but this one has me baffled, since I thought it would be stronger.

Not a fan of mine, but I've had more luck when things are a bit slicker. I think half the problem for me with it is I haven't seen enough oil to see it come alive. The one time I through a decent game ( well for me anyways) with it was on a fresh pattern that was a bit on the heavier side of medium.

I like mine, though I expected it to do something different than how I had the ball drilled.

Call me a between a cranker and a tweener. Nearly the same tilt as Robert Flunder IV, but nothing like a big baller like a Jeremy Hunt. So coming into it, I was thinking that the layout I had on my FB would get me similar results to them.

I was totally wrong.

I had it drilled pin down, and a weaker drill than my heavy rolling balls, so it totally took skid/flip out of the equation. So it really had me stumbled... Until I realized that it suited my B game (down and in, like Duke/Handegard) better than my A game. So when I squared up with that ball and went straight up 8 and gave myself room of no more than 2 boards to the right, I saw results, and liked what I saw. It was almost similar to what Scott Norton was seeing when he won last year.

Now, this will completely differ from what everyone else should have seen, and this was on any THS out there. But I put that down to it being the layout of the ball, rather than motion and performance expected out of it.

I'm contemplating either getting another one and laying it out pin up, or redrilling my current one pin up and bringing in an Amp Up. Haven't decided yet.

Yeah I don't think its a bad ball, more of a combination of the way its drilled and my game. Much like you when I can throw it more down and in it seems to work ok, problem is that wasn't really what I was expecting to see.

The ball almost feels like its stuck in between motions if that makes any sense. Really wish I would of gone with a longer/backend drilling rather than what I did.

Same here, which is why I'm thinking of plugging/redrilling or finding a used one with a decently long pin. Thinking more the latter, or if Black Friday could pull out something for me. Right now, pickings are slim, as K&K in Vegas seem to have the best deal for everything, with the drawback that it is in-store only.

Put a double-thumb hole on the ball if you really want it to move on the backend!

Weight holes in strategic positions will really make a ball come alive. That's part of the theory behind MOtion holes.

Just Rico posted a thread, either last week or the week before about weight holes and the quadrants that you should place them in......to get certain desired results.

Check it out!

Jesse,

I can't find that post by Just Rico on where to place different weightholes as far as quadrants.

Jesse James do you have any where that post is.  It sounds interesting.

P.S. To answer the original poster's question: YES! I would agree with you, as I have only seen this ball shine on the drier side of medium patterns as well.

Nope.. That would be my mother. But she hasn't thrown a ball since the Black Diamond in 1987. I'm a right-hander.
