Gauntlet Cover not impressed

Picked up a used one to try thinking it was something strong and so far it's a very over under ringing ten pin machine. tried 500/4000,500/2000 and 500 with all pretty much the same results.. So my question is is this pretty much what most seen with this ball or my thoughts are it needs a de oiling session?

I typically de-oil any used ball I get before drilling.

Plug, de-oil, adjust surface, drill.

I didn't like mine at box finish,  it was very angular to the point of not being able to control it.

1000 or 500/1000 have been great for me.  Smoother shape that hooks a lot on everything.  Has 60 plus games and ive not gotten a single drop of oil when trying to de-oil it.  I just keep touching up surface as needed and go.

The ball needs some volume on the lanes that’s for sure

From what I've seen, people have had more success keeping the original Gauntlet at a lower grit.

The Gauntlet Fury was much more well received, it just seemed to be a much better core/cover match than the original. The Rip'D Solid and Scandal have been preferred much more over the Gauntlet

Yeah thats what this thing does. Needs good amount of friction down lane but makesa a big late move with alot of energy

De-oil, then try 500+ polish, my guess is that its burning up to early.
That's a strong cover that needs volume up front.
It also needs religious cover maintenance.

So it certainly could be losing energy if you have a high friction surface or not enough oil
When you leave that corner pin and it doesnt seem to have that motion downlane that you were expecting, look and see if their are oil rings all the way around the ball, if not, then you know that it's ready to early
