Hammer Black Widow Black/Gold
« on: July 26, 2018, 01:59:29 PM »

Just dropped by Billy O. on their FB page, plus now is on Hammer's website.

http://www.hammerbowling.com/products/balls/upper-mid-performance/black-widow-black-gold

Gas Mask Core, Aggression Hybrid coverstock (Rip'D cover).

I believe Bill said WWRD was 8/20, so that is coming up fast.

Now this further goes into my confusion. I was looking at getting a Rip'D, then the Scandal/S came out, and I was going to ask that outside of asymmetric versus symmetric, why should I choose the Scandal/S over the Rip'd. Now I have to ask the question of all three: why should I choose one of these balls over the other 2, if right now, the only difference is core, asym versus symmetric, and shape?

On a lighter note, looks like Vanderbilt would have an official ball! :P

I say don't overthink it and just get the one that appeals the most to you.

Symmetrical and lower asymm options have worked the best for me. Getting into the higher asymmetry has been hit or miss for me

Another thing to notice here, is that with releasing the Scandal/S, they did quietly phase out the Scandal Pearl finally. So there is no longer a pearl in their HP lineup.

It may be a good idea to jump on that BWG real quick, but I would suspect that a HP pearl would come out mid season, shortly before Christmas.

Gauntlet Fury has the Semtex Pearl cover on it.  Such a awesome ball too!  Another Pearl albeit in the next line down is the Rhodman pearl.  Very underrated piece in the line-up.

I am a newbie, but the numbers are exactly like the Black Widow Gold. Can't you just changed the surface of the ball and have the same exact ball? I don't see why I would pay 169.00 for the same ball?
Do the cover really make it that big of a difference? (Remember I am a newbie at this cover thing).

Different cover has the possibility of making a big difference. In this case if you already have the Gold then I don't see a reason for this as it'll just add overlap

The Black Widow Gold is squirtier and less consistent. By the way, where are you seeing the Black Widow Black/Gold for 169?

This still lends credence to the question of choice between the BWG or keeping the Scandal Pearl.. decisions on that one as well.

Are you looking to replace or make a complimentary 2 ball arsenal from the two you pick?

BWG offers the same cover that's on the Rip'D which is a hybrid and one of the most aggressive covers in our line. Im assuming the choice from the OP is the Rip'D, The Scandal/S, and the Black Widow Gold.

The Rip'D was a decent rolling ball that was a good compliment to the Solid. Compared to the Solid it was a little lengthy which is good for some and bad for others but nothing that couldn't be fixed with surface. Overall it does strike a good amount and with a defined friction spot can be very useful.

The Scandal/S is the Replacement for the Scandal. Definitely strong and picks up quickly like the Original Solid but with more pop downlane. Its the first ball out of the bag when there's juice and I need something to get up when the Rhodman Pearl and Black Paradox(with compound) isn't enough.

The Black Widow Black/Gold is more core that the Ripd so it should be a little more ball meaning a touch earlier and a little more arc shaped. Ill know Monday when I punch holes in it.

What I'm thinking is this. My Maverick is pretty much dead, and my Scandal Pearl is outhooking my Scandal even on the fresh. So if I were to put together a solid/hybrid/pearl arsenal, that would put me perfectly with selecting between the Rip'D Solid, Rip'D (or BWBG, or even Scandal/S), and either getting a BWG or sticking with the Scandal Pearl, knowing that  I'll need room in my bag for a pearl sometime soon, as the Scandal Pearl is already discontinued, and the BWG is close to being on its way out (it's last on the list in the UMP line).

What I'm trying to do is put together a solid lineup that will take on the fresh, give me something clean through the heads and the midlane as blend out the wet/dry while still getting a nice pop at the back end, and then handle the carry down when the heads start to burn up. The solid will handle the fresh which is great, but options open up when it comes to the hybrid, and then still have two more options with the pearls, and I'm not sure if I should stick with the current pearl, or figure out how the BWG compares to the Scandal Pearl.

This in addition to already having a BW Urethane, in which urethane has been a staple in my bag for 30 years.

Hi, So how do you like your BW Urethane? I got the Hammer Purple Pearl a couple of weeks ago and I think it is one hell of a ball so now I'm thinking about getting another Urethane.

Thanks   8) 8)

Same core, so of course the numbers will be the same. Some people don't realize that those numbers are just for the core. Cover strength definitely makes a big difference.

I'm loving the BW Urethane. It was this ball that finally had me give my Fab Blue Hammer another much long-needed vacation. I primarily use it for my B game, going down and in, and taking most of the pattern out of play. If the lanes get too dry, I can even step inside and play my A game with it. Speed is the only major issue for me when it comes to Urethane. As long as I control that and keep my target closer to me on the lane, that ball is money.

We just had an EBI demo day here and the BW B/G did not disappoint. I just sold my Rip'D so I was not able to compare. Plus I basically had to throw 15 due to the span sizes. However, it did seem a little cleaner and flippier. I wouldn't call it true skid/flip, but it is definitely on the angular side. I kept striking with it. If I didn't already pick up the Radical Ludicrous, I would probably buy the Widow. Top 3 of the EBI balls that they brought.
