Hammer or Elite?
« on: February 27, 2006, 05:55:39 AM »
I was thinking about buying a new ball i was already reading reviews and everything but i would like a better opinion. I was thinking of either buying a Hammer Saw Blade or Elite R47. I am right handed, bowl on synthetic lanes and throw the ball between the 1st and 2nd arrow, and not a cranker. Which ball would work out better i need a new ball so bad at the place where i bowl they now add a lot of extra oil. They used to only have light to medium so my Track Solution and Hammer Switch had a hard backend but now they go straight. I need a ball that hooks in heavy oil.

That is a good price for an elite ball.  I still think you can get a better ball in the hawg wild for 30 dollars or so cheaper.

The best covers for true heavy oil are particle.  They just grab so much better.  However if your looking for a ball for med to heavy the Doom could be your answer.  Just dull it to 600 grit like I did with one of mine.  Next drill it strong to handle the heavier oil.

Read my mini review about the dull Doom.  My Dooms are not drilled very strong.  Both are drilled the same and have the pins 5.5" from my pap.  My Dooms would be even stronger if I drilled them stacked leverage.  My point is the Doom can handle heavier oil great when dulled.

I know a lot of people feel pearlized balls shouldn't be dulled down.  I disagree completely.  You may be surprised at what you find when this is done.  I have found that the Doom cover when dulled can handle a lot more oil then it does with the pearlized shiny cover.  It's a completely different ball when it comes to oil handling capability.  It also changed the reaction a little bit.  It went form a skid flip reaction to more of a strong arc.

I will post more reviews on it in a couple of weeks when I use it on our heavy oil pattern.

I would go with the higher top weight.

Hammer Doom gets my vote.  If your going to use it on heavier oil then dull it down to like 600 grit and drill it strong.

actually yeah CHITOWN why would you go for a higher top weight?

Updated list of balls to get...

1. Elite R47
2. Hammer Doom
3. Track Delta Rule 1
4. Hammer Saw Blade
or any other opinions

I was also wondering if anyone that has the Elite R47, how does it hook on light or dry oil conditions

There are tow sides to this story.  I'm from the side that feels static weights are important when it comes to ball drive.  How they hit.  I feel this way from the balls I have had.  The higher top weight balls I have had seem to hit better than the lower top weight balls.  Who knows maybe i'm crazy and maybe i'm not.

Go with what you feel is right for you.

Hey there are a lot of opinions when it comes to bowling balls.  Just like people telling me to not dull a pearlized ball because it wont react good.  That is BS in my opinion and I will go by what I have seen with my own eyes.

I like higher top weights.  In fact I don't buy any balls that have a top weight lower than 2 3/4 oz.  That is my minimum limit for myself.

Hey there, I currently own all elite balls and they're all very amazing to me...I however aint gonna recommend an R47 if you are needing an oily lane  ball... Then again I wont recommend an Saw Blade or a Doom... I havnt got to see but only a couple saw blades in action but I do know there many balls on the market better suited for oil.
The R47 goes long and snaps very hard but I say this because if you have alot of oil this ball might indeed go to long before hooking verses a ball like maybe the road hawg or the Big one... I have got to see many Big ones on the regional tour lately and let me tel you they are some awsome rolling balls!!!

If you dont like either of the two then maybe go with the R43 because it is maybe more versatile than the R47 r even possibly the P43... If you are paying that much money then shop around and just go a few more dollars and buy a high performance ballsuch as the road hog, hawg wild...and so on many many strong balls are out there waiting for you!
