How is your DOOM drilled?
« on: June 05, 2006, 02:28:22 AM »
I couldn't pass up a NIB 15# DOOM for $97.89 shipped from MGbowling.com so I ordered one with a 3-4" pin placement.  Based upon my current arsenal (see my profile), I am thinking about drilling this ball label leverage with the pin 3 3/8" from my PAP and locating the CG at the center of my grip maybe kicking it out .5" positive.  Hopefully, this will be my answer for Medium to Medium/Light.

How do you have your DOOM drilled and what are your opinions?

I'm having my Doom drilled today.
I was thinking of using the same layout as you mentioned.
A friend of mine, recommended pin under bridge, CG kicked out positive.

I'm going to ask my drller what he thinks. I'm undecided.

I have a very similar layout, and I think it works great for that ball.  It's the only ball I throw now, if at all possible.

Similar to label leverage or pin under the bridge?

The pin is 3 3/8" out, but the cg is kicked out just a little bit further than .5".  It is a basic leverage drill.

That is exactly what I was thinking.  I too use clear grips and a black slug.  Wait a minute, are you sure that is not my ball?

Pin is 4.5" from PAP (45 degree angle above ring finger), 2" shift positive from CG w/ balance hole at 4" in inside PAP and parallel to center of grip, 2000 grit (used to break polished surface).

Oh splendid! This calls for a sexy party!

The ball really performs as advertised. It does glide through the heads and reads the backend strongly. All I have to do is feed it to the breakpoint with solid speed. I'm very impressed!

With the OOB cover you coul dget away with drilling it stronger than some other balls.  The cover allows it to glide thru the heads with ease.

That sounds like a good layout to use.  It should give you and awesome controlled backend reaction.  This layout should be perfect for dry back ends.

I had my Doom drilled today. I was lucky, there was PBA lefty bowling in the center, and he was rolling a Doom. Ball fit me pretty close, and had the pin under bridge with the CG kicked about 1/2" left. Ball reacted very well.

I drilled my doom the same layout. Ball has great length, good hard finishing backend. Center oiled the pair we were on, so we could try out the equipment we had drilled on fresh oil.

Ball finished A LOT stronger than I expected on fresh oil. (Don't know the length of the pattern, pretty soft THS).

There were 5 Dooms on the ball return, while we were bowling....Ball is catching on big time. S-h-h-h!!!
