How Should I Have A Black Widow Drilled?
« on: December 05, 2006, 05:37:57 AM »
As most of you already know I want a Black Widow. I have a question. How should I get the ball drilled? The lanes I bowl on are I'm guessing around medium oil. How should I tell the guy at the pro shop to drill the Black Widow? I throw a good curve. For example, last saturday I was using a Doom and was standing lined up with center dot and was throwing it between 2nd and 3rd arrow and it would hammer the pocket. I have the doom drilled 2nd to the weakest amount of curve. Let me know if you need anymore information.

This is going to be tough for us to give you a layout because there's a good amount of info needed.

1. what's your PAP?
2. Are you a high rev guy?
3. Do you throw the ball with a lot of speed or avg speed?
4. How's your DOOM drilled?
5. Where's the pin on your DOOM?

See there's a lot of info needed for us to give you an accurate layout.  If you can give some more info then maybe we can help.

Ok I'm gonna feel very stupid when you tell me this but what is a PAP? For some reason I can't figure it out. I'm gonna kick myself when you tell me what it is.

I do rev the ball quite a bit.

I throw the ball at about above average speed.

My doom is drilled for good backend.

I'll take a picture of the doom and post it on here to show you where the pin is exactly.

Tell your driller to use the same pin location that you have on your DOOM.  Since the BW is asymmetrical and has a MB logo have him move the MB right of your thumb, anywhere from 1" to 3".  This should give you a nice reaction.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. So just tell the pro shop guy to drill it the same as my Doom? I just want to make sure.

Well I say use the same pin location that you have on your DOOM.  Do you know what I mean by the pin?  It's the big white dot on your DOOM.  Well each ball has a pin.

Just tell the pro shop guy that you want the same pin location on your Widow that you have on your DOOM.  Then tell him you want the MASS BIAS(MB) put about  1" to 2" right of your thumb.  If he askes why just say that you want it in the strong position.

I hope this helps.  If you send me a PM with your E-mail I can send you a pic of mine.  I don't know how to put the pics on this site.

Yes I know what the pin is, I was just getting a little confused with the MB. Thanks so much for helping me out.

Here are how my two BW's are drilled. The one with the MB under the thumb hooks earlier but is smooth off the break. The second one goes a little longer and is much sharper at the break.

Hammer Black Widow #1(3 x 5)http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3305043

Hope this helps.

Yeah I'll probably get it with the MB 1-3 inches from the thumb. Should I keep the ball the way it is out of the box or should I get it sanded or polished?

Always try any ball OOB first.  Once you get a feel of what it can do, then decide.
