Jigsaw surface question ??
« on: October 31, 2009, 12:16:47 PM »
So far, it doesn't seem like my Jigsaw is rolling any different from when I first got it, which is good!  Because I love it, I've had it for about 3 months and I bowl quite a bit.

But, it seems like the surface has become noticeably shinier then OOB.  If this continues and starts to change the ball motion a little bit, what is the correct way to resurface the ball back to its original state??

Thanks ahead for any replies/help.

You don't really need to re-surface it. You need to remove the oil shine.
BUT since it's been 3 months, it's probably absorbed a bunch of oil, Suprised you have not seen any reduction in performance. As such, I'd suggest a deep cleaning using some very strong deep cleaner, like Clean and Dull.

If you wish to refresh the surface, since it's 500/4000 grit surface, take a 500 grit Abralon pad to it, then follow-up with a 4000 grit pad. If it were in need of a true resurfacing, you mght want to start with a 360 grit pad, then the 500 grit pad, then the 4000 grit pad.

Normally after 3 months of usage I'd suggest sanding it to 500 grit with an Abralon pad, putting it thru a Revivior oven at your local pro shop (to do a thorough oil removal), and then sanding it with a 4000 grit Abralon pad to restore the original surface. Since you said you noticed no loss in performance, I'd guess this process is not necessary.

I find that when mine starts to get glossy, I just give it a hot water bath and it goes back to the flat look it had once before without resurfacing.

But to resurface it to OOB condition you are supposed to use a 500 pad and then skip to a 4000 pad without using anything in between. I found mine worked better for me at 1000 abralon.

Every 2 weeks I take a 2000 grit pad to my buddy's ball. Just removes that glaze and keeps the reaction in the ballpark.
