Jigsaw Trap.,. bought into the hype!
« on: June 18, 2010, 03:37:47 AM »
Alright so I came across one of these early.. I have had it for 2 weeks now. The first outing with it I didnt like it, but the thumb was botched a bit on it and it didnt fit correctly so I couldnt get anything behind it consistently... not the balls fault here. I have been suffering as of lately with timing and such so that has led to more practice on the whole! After getting my timing and free armswing back in order (injury in Reno and me forcing myself to play through it damaged my game badly) I brought the trap out. I wasnt expecting too much from the ball as I didnt really care for the jigsaw (after shooting 299 with it), and the corner was hit or miss with me. The first thing I noticed was how hard this ball leaped off the dry, I have a jacked drilled the same way (pin out and under ring finger... medium weight hole), and they are perfect for each other. This thing flat out leaps right when you think its not going to hook up. I started the game playing around 10 at our local flood house (Brunswick Zone), and I came right out the gate with the front 6 without any warm up shots. We bowled around 10 games and I averaged in the mid 210's with it.. should have been higher as I just didnt want to put the ball down once the lanes were torched (nbs.. new ball syndrome)

Ball reaction:

This ball reminds me of a hot sauce pearl on steroids. It has extreme length and then it just leaps left. Balls like this usually lead to over/under and an erratic reaction, but I always knew once I let it go where it was going, and it has one thing above any hammer release I have thrown. It carries the world.. I threw some flat out bad shots that with other balls would have left me greek churches and big 4's.... but somehow this thing struck without hitting the head pin a few times. I will reserve some of my enthusiasm as all new balls do this and then loose some once it gets some miles on it, but with this one being a shiny ball.. they might have just figured it out. I compared this ball to the mutant cell pearl drilled stacked (stronger then the layout on my trap), and I was able to get deeper inside with the trap without loosing carry. The mutant cell pearl was rollier vs extreme skid flip on the trap... and the trap carried worlds better. I am in for the plague to replace my jacked... I hope this is a sign of more to come!

For whatever it's worth:
Like most people not in or at a PBA level of skill, I have incredible ups and downs with balls like the Trap. I'll shoot more lesser but very good games with balls that arc but I'll also shoot less low, undesirable scores.
So with an arc-ing ball I might shoot 3 games in the  210 - 230 range clean, but with the huge backend, skid/flip balls I'll shoot one 250 - 270 but then 2 180s, with 5 or 6 opens.
Not a good exchange in my opinion. So I tend to use fewer flippy balls.

If you have good consistency in ball speed and release, a skid/flip ball can give lots of extra scoring power.

Charlest.. I agree with you...an inconsistent release and/or poor speed = a nightmare with a skid flip monster like this one.. JK.. Your probably right... just so much coming in from lane 1 stuff.. to hammer and big b... just too much out.. the trap has a spot in my bag for now though!

The mutant cell pearl with that layout should be stronger... and it wasnt. Of course it changes from bowler to bowler.. but to me the trap definately has more pop then the mutant cell pearl. As for it being not much different then the corner.. I dont agree with that at all.. as I had 3 corners with different drillings including one with whats on the trap, and it was either hit or miss. The reaction shapes in my hand were totally different! But everyone is different, and maybe his release, speed, and style didnt measure up with the trap.. bowling is funny like that as im sure you know.

You are spot on with the invasion... as most wont notice the strength of it until you get on a flood which for most bowlers means a tournament shot.. I will compare these two again plus the c-system 4.5 once I get it on the appropriate shot!

I hated my original jigsaw because I didn't have anywhere near enough oil for it. I am picking up my trap tomorrow along with a 505T so ill let you guys know what I see from the new "saw"  .

My original Jigsaw OOB was unusable. Never say nearly enough oil. Ball got into a roll early and had very little movement on the backends. I added some shine to it and it became a beast. Very close to a skid snap reaction. Cleared the heads much easier and hooked for days on the backend.

Most people I saw with it that didn't like it never changed the surface. Too bad, because the ball was a awesome. I usually got 1-2 games tops on our normal house shot. Just not enough oil for the ball to get s complete set in.

Yeah I never added any shine to mine because I had other stuff that would do pretty much the same thing at that time, really looking forward to throwing the it and the 505 tomorrow. Hopefully the trap will be the strong pearl I'm looking for.

Totally agree, i've had mine since the release and haven't use it that much. It is so strong, and when polished its still a monster, I shot a few big sets with it polished but it was just too much for the conditions around here. I've got it dull again and just waiting in my bag for the condition that will prompt its use.

Well I threw the trap on four different conditions. The first was a 45 ft house shot the trap was perfect on it. The ball clears the heads but was very strong in the back part of the lane. On a medium 36 ft house shot for a tournament at a house I haven't bowled in before. The trap was ok for the first game but was way too much once the transition started. The ball was just way too much for this pattern. I bowled on my regular house shot which is 38 ft and the ball was over under for me here. It was too much off the dry and didn't carry well inside for the fresh. It worked better later in the set but forced me too deep in for my liking at that point. I practiced on my regular house one night on a really broken down shot and the ball didn't work well on it. Overall I didn't match up with the ball at the box surface. I didn't change anything on it since I had an offer for the ball so I got rid of it. The layout was about 5 pin to pap and the mb in a strong flippy position. Any questions and ill be glad to answer them as best I can.
