Hey Kendra, All I know is that all of us here at Crofton Lanes were sure pulling for you!Congrats on getting as far as you did! Hey the day I don't make some mistakes in bowling will never come.Isn't that part of what makes us all come back? I think you showed an excellent attitude (given the circumstances.) How many of us would have been as gratious? Remember you always have lots of fans here at home.

                          Best wishes for continued success,

Kendra-

We mean no harm.  No need to defend yourself atleast in my eyes.  As you said you have to get there to make the decisions.  I wish I had that much confidence in my equipment to shoot a great game and then still try to jump to another ball and try to get a better reaction.  One thing that should make you smile is you bowled great and in your mind you will never have to wonder could I have taken her if I had just switched balls.  That is aggressive always be wrong on the aggressive side atleast you leave it all on the table.

By the way welcome to our insanity we call a family you will soon see we can be critical harsh, but we truly are family we give to each other till we have nothing left.

Kendra,

Kool that you responded!

The most fascinating part of your post for me at least was that Michelle got to take up almost all of the practice time!

What is the protocol on that?

In finals I've been in one either gets exactly the same amount of shots, or the same amount of time.

What is the PWBA position on this issue.

(insert sounds of clearing one's throat.....mmmm....called out by a pro  ...but I LOVE IT !  At first I saw a post from Kendra Gaines and I say.."yeah right"...then she starts talking about the show, the balls she had , the drillings....etc, etc.....gotta be her!  Well Kendra,  welcome! and since I started this mess.....I humbly apologize!  No harm meant...hell , you had 3 SBlades working all week....now that you explain it all, it kinda makes sense. You make the finals and make a gut decision...If it was working all week, you'd HAVE to throw it more than once! right ?!?

Anyhow, thanks for dropping in....please bookmark us and visit constantly! We love hearing from the pros!! As you can already tell from the response you received!

I used 3 differents Sling Blades all week.  One was a 3 1/4" stacked layout with a hole, one was a 4"pin by 2"cg with a hole, and the other was a 3 1/2" label drilling without a balance hole

Question though.......Which of the Slings you mentioned in your post did you throw on the show ??

P.S.  Ignore Andy (Card79...he'e a trouble maker!)
P.P.S. Say hi to Bjaardker...he thinks you're the "cats pajamas!"

Thanks again !

Kendra,

I, too, was not sure why you had made the ball change.  When watching it on tv, it looked as though you had a good look into the 1-3 before you made the change.  But, then again, I am sure there is something you could see from being there that we could not from watching the tube.  I remember getting the chance to talk to you several years ago at AMF Chamblee Lanes in Atlanta.  I believe it was shortly after you graduated from Morehead St.  I dated a girl who bowled for Morehead St back in the early to mid 90s.  I wanted you to know that you are a very pleasant person to talk to.  I also met your husband, John, a few months ago when he was here in the ATL.  Very nice guy.  I wish you two the best in the future both professionally as well as on a personal level.

I was throwing my Sling Blade on Sunday in an 8-gamer on a sport shot during the show so I never got to see it.  Kendra used the Sling all week to get there and the outcome had nothing to do with how great the Sling is.  It may not have looked good on that day, but I can tell you that I've made over 2 grand with mine in the two weeks I've had it.  A another tournament, I was using the Blade solid and made a switch to the Sling and shot 279, 268 on different pairs.

When a PBA national title holder and current team USA member refuse to bowl me unless I switch balls says great things about the ball.  They are both on staff with other companies and threw my ball and couldn't believe the reaction.

For the price, the Sling is the best ball ever made.   Thanks Hammer!

Kendra,

Great to see you on the show and here on this forum.  I hope you continue to give us the benefit of your experience.

I'm sure that you will not remember, but I had the pleasure of crossing with you at a Tournament Concepts tournament at AMF Clinton several years ago.  I bowled badly but you made the lanes look easy and I think you may have won.

Please say hello to John, he took good care of our group from the D.C. area at the Storm booth in Reno '98.  I have moved back to my home town of Harrisburg, PA and certainly enjoyed seeing you bowl here a few weeks ago.

Jeffrevs,
I tried using my 3 1/4" stacked.  I threw it a little in practice and it hooked pretty early, so I sent it to get some polish put on it before the start of my match with Carol.  So part of the reason it went a lot straighter than all week is because I put a bit of shine on it.  I was really hoping it would give me some hold, but it ended up being to clean through the front of the lane.  Oh Well!!

To everyone else(except the kid who thinks I am an idiot),
Thanks for the support and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.  I really enjoy being on TV and giving it everything I have.  Its nice to be recognized for it!

Thanks for letting me into the club!!

Kendra,

Nice to hear from you on this site. I hope it is the first of many posts for you.  As you may know, we hear from Kimbo now and then as well, which is always interesting and exciting for us "hacks".  By the way,it was a pleasure meeting you and John at Ron C's during the "Hammer Challenge" in North Carolina in March.

Clearly, Michelle was lined up on the pair in the final match and she can carry 10 with the best of them.  I agree that it appeared you tested the waters at the end of that first game.  Of course, if you bowl 300 the next game, you are applauded for making such a bold move.  It didn't work out, but you obviously had a fantastic week even to get the opportunity at the title.  No reason to beat yourself up about it and it is good to see that is not your approach.  I hope the PWBA finds the $$ so that class acts like you and many of the other ladies can continue to compete on tour and that viewers like myself will continue to enjoy watching you and your fellow bowlers perform.  Good Luck!!

Mike

Kendra,

Thanks for stopping in to clarify the ball change.  I have a couple of questions to ask.

1) How do you like the Sling Blade especially in box or polished condition? Can you compare it to the blade pearl?  I am looking for a med-dry lane ball that won't "jerk" on dry backends, looking for a strong but controlled move.

2)  How often do you or other ladies on tour take a "weaker" ball (like the Sling Blade) and drill it stronger and add some surface to play more in the oil?  This seems to work well for me in some PBA regionals.

Hey Kendra, Thanks for the P.S.- I've got one(17 year old)who wants to follow in your footsteps. I'll bet you can guess where she works and bowls. Small world isn't it? They say history repeats itself. In this case I hope so! Best wishes for future success.

                            Best Regards,
                            Mike E
P.S.- Is Florida better? Hoping to retire there someday!

Jeff,
1) I personally like the sling blade with a light grey scotch brite pad on it.  To me it really defines the break point.  Compared to the blade pearl, it is more skid flippy.  The blade pearl is is a more even/early rolling pearlized ball.
2)  I know that I really like to use "weaker balls" with stroger drills and surface.  I think that it takes a lot of the over/under out of tricky conditions.  They tend to make a more defined move than shinier strong balls.

Hope that answered your questions!
Best of Luck.
Kendra
