League tonight: 170--something/ 290/ 170--something
« on: January 26, 2007, 04:50:36 PM »
Used a Hawg Wild in the 2nd game tonight for a solid 290.....flanked by two pathetic 170--somethings!

This is the first time I've ever shot so poorly in two games and posted an award score in the series. It was also the first time I used the Hawg Wild in league and only the 3rd time I'd ever thrown it. Not sure what happened in the last game....nothing would carry and left alot of splits/washouts.

Pretty pathetic to shoot 290 and come away with only a 635 series.

Hey the 290 is a great game.  Your going to have nights like that so don't get down on yourself.  Look at it this way.  You could have shot 170 all three games.

Don't get too down on yourself...that 290 is nothing to sneeze at.  Now you've got that 290 in there, you'll do better next time.  Whether it was an equipment thing or just not concentrating, I think you'll do fine next time.

Thanks guys. I've been struggling lately in this league and even though I'm still averaging 221 it hasn't been a very pretty picture the last few weeks. It's a scratch league that bowls AFTER the Juniors so the shot is a bit broken down.

What irks me is that I'm in the pocket but my carry is horrible (fast 10's, solid 8's or 9's, fast 7's, etc, etc). The backend is just too wicked. So, I get frustrated and the fundamentals go down the tube (missing easy spares etc.).

I'm going to try some weaker coverstocks/drillings and reduce my revs a bit so the ball isn't ripping through the pocket.

As Van Morrison sang: "Momma said there'd be days like this".

Hi!

I have a hawg wild too and if you play on light condition you better put some polish on it, that what i have done and it's working pretty well.

I switch to my hawg wild (4000+polish) when my angular(OOB) is checking up too early.

hawg wild is a very good ball.

I agree. Mine is also polished @ 4000 abralon. It looks alot like my BW in the backend, a true hockey stick reaction.

Recently I changed my thumb from 0/0 to 1/4 right/1/4 fw and it worked well for staying behind the ball and going down and in. However, I started blowing ten pins like you wouldn't believe. After missing 4 of 6 in league one night I realized that the thumb in my spare ball was still 0/0 and the profound difference between the two pitches was causing all sorts of muscle memory problems, went back to 0/0 in the strike ball and problem solved.

I'll tell ya, if it isn't one thing it's another

Just be glad the 290 was there. 630 or 640 always looks better than 520 or so...

I had a simialr night this year (but without the award score). The house put out long oil and I had brought NOTHING that hooked. Went 142-225-149. Boy that was a fun night on a 223 average...

regarding my missing 10 pins......drilled up a Blue Dot today w/a conventional grip and in our 4 game scratch league didn't miss a single 10 pin tonight. Shot 748/969 on the night.

The conventional grip felt great! It allowed the fingers and thumb to exit at the same time and the ball just skidded down the lane.
