Need some advise...
« on: December 16, 2009, 04:36:35 PM »
Hi everybody.  I am looking for some advise on my next ball purchase.  I am looking to start my first league soon and want to make sure I have a good arsenal assembled.  I have been bowling for about five years but just never got around to joining a league.  I recently bought a Raw Hammer Burn which has been good to me when there has been oil on the lanes, which hasn't been often because I usually bowl late at night when its cheap and the lanes are scorched.  When I go during the day when there's a nice coat of oil I average around 170-180.  But anyway,  I'm wondering if I should look to get a more aggressive ball for the heavier oil patterns I will see during league play?  Or is my Burn enough? My Burn is drilled pretty strong, the pin is just to the right of my ring finger.  Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated  Thanks

I forgot to add that my ball speed is pretty slow, around 12mph, I'm a pretty small guy :/

If you play that slow, the Burn should IMHO be "enough". I'd rather look for a ball "under" it, for lighter conditions - a stronger piece might just be dead weight in your bag.

A suggestion: an Onyx Vibe, with a lengthier setup than the Burn (e. g. higher pin, 0.5-1" more distance between pin and PAP), and maybe rough up the Burn's surface a bit for oily and spotty shots, so that it gets a bit more/earlier traction.
