Need your opinion on Hammer equipment
« on: October 02, 2004, 09:53:45 AM »
Attention Hammerheads

The center in my area is having a sale on all hammer equipment for about 50 percent off the normal price. So I am considering picking up a couple of balls. I am thinking about getting a Big Blue and a Big Block Diesel. Do you think this is a good choice in balls or would you recommend something else ? I was thinking the Big Blue for heavy oil and then the Diesel for when they start to break down. Give me your opinion on this hammerheads, I need to know before next weekend. Thanks in advance for everyones input on this topic

hey storm,
I went last year and bought 2 hammer balls because I was finally sold on there products.  I got the Big Blue and the Sling Blade, and love them.  They hit with pure force and are really controlable.  The big blue is just consistent, true roll in oil, very predictable break point.  The sling blade likes to be thrown straight, down and in.  Both are great balls, I'm not sure how the diesel is but i threw the particle pearl and reactive and loved 'em. And for the price it self may be worth it.

The Big Blues seem to be very bowler-specific balls.  Some people like them, but just as many seem to find them disappointing.  The Sling Blade has been very successful.  Almost everyone has liked it, but opinions vary widely on what condition it is good for.  Mine is very effective on a very light condition, but does very little if there is much oil present.  Some people claim it to be effective on a medium condition.  It probably depends mostly on your revs.  High rev bowlers can get it moving on medium, but average to below average revvers need to save it for light.

I think the Diesel line is very hard to beat if you like a good mid-lane read.  I have the Diesel Particle Solid and the Diesel Particle Pearl; and have had great success with them in both my former weight of 16# and in 15#, which is what I use now.  Alas, both of those balls have been discontinued.  I do not have a Big Block Diesel, but am in the process of acquiring one.  It has the exact same core (and thus the exact same RG and diff) as the two I mentioned above.  The Turbo Diesel and Power Diesel have a modified core.  I have not tried those two.

If the place having the sale happens to have a 15# Diesel Particle Pearl laying around and you don't intend to buy it yourself, please let me know and let me know their phone number.  That ball is a killer for me and I didn't manage to get a spare one before they went off the market.

Hope this helps.

Totally agree with the G-man! All of the Diesels are excellent balls. Current favorite of mine is the Diesel Particle. Great ball if the oil is heavy. Haven't got my Power Diesel drilled up yet, but I'm sure it will be a great transition ball for when the lanes start to break down, or the Diesel Particle is hooking too much. Have 2 Blades as well and I would recommend either one also- Blade Solid and Blade Pearl. Blade Solid can handle a variety of conditions and it's cover is easily adjustable. Blade Pearl is touted as a dry lane ball, however mine will outhook it's solid counterpart in box finish. Haven't tried any of the Big Blues as of yet, or the Sling Blade, but I've heard good things about all of them. Good luck with your new Hammer and be sure to let us know which one you go with! And be sure to post a review of the ball!
