New Unlabeled ball?
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:59:15 AM »
 Hi,

I have a friend who has a proshop.  He received a ball from Hammer to test.  It is unlabeled, and isn't supposed to be released for a few months.  It is some type of test ball.

Does anyone know anything about this ball?  Has hammer been doing this for a while?

There's a picture of it on Facebook, it's been there for a few days.  Must say, it's a very sexy bowling ball (IMO)

In a post by Dan Belcher stating about the guy from the pro shop has been throwing it in league the past few.nights is somewhat not right. Reason I say this is if its a test ball, normally these cannot be thrown in league since they would normally not be USBC approved yet. Which would also mean the scores shot would not count.

Maybe its a Pearl Taboo finally. W/the success of the taboo i've been surprised not to see a pearl version yet to hit the market.

In an earlier post there was a link to the equipment and specs and it showed that the ball has been USBC approved, so it would be ok for league play.  Even if it wasn't you could still throw it in unsanctioned league play haha

Sorry all.  jumped the gun there.   Didn't click the link or looked for "made in USA'  as a ball name since who would want the name of a ball as 'made in the USA'.  Would have thought it would be something different than that.  If this is a test ball, can't wait to see what other Hammer balls will be named as 'made in USA'

The guy who I was talking about to start this topic shot 800 with it last night ... unfortunately it was AGAINST me on position night.  Next time I'll just keep it to myself.

Yeah, I wondered about the legality of throwing the ball in league as well, but before I could even ask, my buddy showed me the USBC approval engraving on it and told me he got the OK to throw it in league.

I threw one last thursday night in league practice. For me it would have been a 4 1/2" pin from PAP at 45 degrees. It had decent length and a rollier break point (probably because it was 45). All I know about it is that it's a completely different core than ever used and a new cover. Probably a bowl expo release (guessing).

I honestly don't think it is a Taboo Pearl - I have seen this in action (haven't thrown it), but it is long with a smooth, yet strong continuation in the backends. Now this bowler put the MB on his VAL so this will be a little smoother reaction than putting it in the stronger MB position. No info has been said/released, etc... but this bowler thinks that this a new core/cover combo - we shall see when Hammer release the new info.

I can't wait to get my big paws on this ball as I like what I have seen so far!!  Me Likey!!

From what i have seen from the pro shop guy, who is on my team, throwing this is something that nobody really liked. it was too over/under on the fresh and then in transition it labored to the pocket. he said he was thinking of taking the polish off because of the over/under but i am not sure if he did.

personally i did not like the reaction he was getting whatsoever. at our house, you can miss right and it hooks to the hole with ease, miss left it holds. with this ball he missed right, it stopped, missed left, it went dead left. so its probably a pretty strong cover/core combo. But i guess we will have to wait and see.

love the colors though

That is great advertising, but really the wrong time of year with most bowlers winding down for the summer.  I'm surprised so many people are buying equipment at this point in the season, but more power to him!
