No Mercy surface tweaking???
« on: February 01, 2007, 06:49:54 AM »
Has anyone taken their No Mercy down to 600 or 800 grit, then hit it with Rough and Buff or any other polish? I was thinking of tinkering with it, to see if I got more overall hook, but still a good backend.

I took mine down to 1000 Abaralon, and like it much better.  My first two sets since changing the cover were 705, 794.  It goes a little sooner and makes a nice arc, as compared to the skid-flip at 4000 grit!!

Mine was at 4000, but went too long for me on our shot. I went down to 1000 abralon, but I'm still looking for some pop on the backend, but hook at the same time.

I might try sanding down to 400 or 600 then hitting it with Powerhouse Factory Finish.  It should give you the shine to the ball, but with enough bite for what you want it to do.  I have a U-Turn Particle Pearl at this finish and I really like it.  Good luck!!!

Does Powerhouse have grit like rough buff, or just a polish?

They have a sandblaster product which is similar to rough-buff.

I currently have my NM at 600 grit, with a coast of track Magic Shine on it.
It has great length and good bite on the backend.
I've tried 1000, 2000, 4000 with and without polish.
I did not like the reaction I was getting at those grits.
Ball works well on mediums w/some carrydown.

i had mine taken to 2000 and it was basically the same as ob. Then i thru it in a polishing machine thinking i would use it for drier lanes, since i couldnt use it for anything else. Then i tried a different hand position and well with a softer speed and more hand i am finally starting to see some potential on fresh ths . I doubt that i could use it on anything heavier ,but it has moved up in my arsenal.

I didn't like my NM either at 4000 so took it to 1000 I felt it was a little better.  I have recently taken it down to 500 abralon and hopefully thinking that it will give a me a reaction I'm looking for.  I wouldn't polish this ball unless it's hooking at your feet because it picks up a easy shine after +20 shot's. IMHO this ball isn't s heavy oil ball there's better equipment out there for that condition.

i agree,  we have taken the cover down to a 1000 abralon pad for many customer's.  the ball reacts great in oil,  but with a more controlled backend.
and some feel they can still get to the 3rd game using the ball.

Results:

600 grit wetsand + rough and buff= 269 off the spinner! Got what I was wanting, exactly. The ball still has some length, but has a great drive and pop on the backend. Not a big hooker by any means, unless it's a little drier outside, but perfect for what I was after.

so Rc Charger, you wouldnt reccomend this for heavy oil? What would you recommend? Im in desperate need of a heavy oil ball for tournaments(definitely wont be used in the houses I bowl in for league, way too dry) so any suggestions would be much appreciated!
