O.K. lets hear the Widow Line comparisons:
« on: August 06, 2008, 12:44:33 PM »
With the new Venom out, it's got my attention. I love the original BW Solid, had so-so luck with the BW Pearl (layout sensitive for me), and I love the BW Bite.

So~ how does the Venom compare to your other balls in the Widow line? How are the reactions with similar drillings/surfaces? Just wondering where or how this might fit with the Bite and Solid.

With OOB surface and all drilled with similar layouts.

BWS = Good skid through the front and very snappy off the spot.
BWP = Longer than the solid and just as angular
Bite = Rollier than the solid, strong off the spot but not as jerky.
Venom = Longest of them all and just as smooth off the spot as the Bite

Both the Venom and Bite like to read the lane sooner and roll off the spot where the Pearl and Solid like to skid more and snap off it.

Two of my buddies are using the Venom now. Both give better looks and are more predictable than the BWP did that they had used. One of them is more "rolly", and the other is alot more backend snap.

So I would say it'd be a good replacement.

I don't know why but my Bite is much stronger off the break point then the solid.  I have three solids, one drilled very close to the Bite and I don't get near the reaction that I get with the Bite.  Didn't match up well with the pearl and I'm getting ready to try the Venom.

Nicanor,

I think your assessment is the way Hammer intended them to be.  I think the Bite was suppose to be stronger at the breakpoint.  This was taken from the Hammer site:

"The Black Widow Bite expands the performance offerings in the Black Widow series by offering a stronger hook motion with more aggressive backend."

Someone had posted the Bite was more rolly than the original Widows but I haven't seen that at all.  But then again, layouts and surfaces can affect what we see.

Pinspeaker,

I orginally had the Bite drilled with the pin up  (over my ring finger right an 1/2 inch MB stacked).  the ball acted as if it were how the Venom is described, longer and very angular.  Plugged and redrilled with the pin now below the finger line and mb directly below.  I just moved the pin and mb staright down from where it was.  The ball picked up earlier and still had a ton of energy to turn the corner.  Carry is tremendous.  Drilling another one just like it or as close to it as possible.  I tried a pin high and a pin low and I just didn't get the carry I get with the Bite and the solid does not swing as well as the Bite IMHO.

That may have been me. I have had all the widows and some multples all drilled identical just for the purpose of comparing them all. I feel very confident in my comparisons

In OOB surface, my BW Solid has more backend snap than my Bite, drilled similar. Also, my Bite handles a touch more oil than the Solid does too.

Both awesome balls and great together.

ok...been trying to decide on a new ball. right now my go-to ball is a smoking inferno, with pin next to ring and mb swung out to right. ball seems to handle just about all except for a flood. i can swing it play up the boards it is just a ball i can trust. BUT its getting old and starting to see some hairline cracks around bridge. so my question is im looking for a ball that will get down the lane like my smokin and jump off the dry quickly n sharply. i tried a gravity shift but that was a boat anchor. now i looking at a venom or the 1st black widow. im sure you people who have thrown 1 or both could have some imput please........thanks

I've had a few Smokin' Inferno's, and for me, my BW Solid is alot stronger, and alot more angular than any of the Smokin's were.

I've got some buddies that have a Venom, and it seems longer than the Solid, but just as angular. Just .2 on it.

I never really had much success with the BW series.  However, if I were to buy a ball in the series it would be the BWS.  The Bite was too hard for me to control on the tough patterns I face at league.  Plus the ball would burn up really easy as the lanes broke down.  I just didn't like it that much.

On heavier shots, my Bite is awesome for playing up the lane more, and a swing once the shot breaks down. My BW Solid is just money on alot of different conditions.

Kinda funny thing. Haven't thrown it in a long time since the new Anger, but got it out last night, and had the front 7 right outta the gate. Guess that balls found it's way back in as a starter lol.
