Reccomendations?
« on: August 03, 2008, 03:30:03 AM »
What i'm looking for is an oiler.

I have already Anger, Blue Vibe, Rayzr.

What i'm looking at is a no mercy(previously owned one and loved it) and the Bite. I know what to expect out of the no mercy but i don't want to miss out on the bite if indeed it's as good as the people would have me to believe.

Anger should be all the oiler you need. Just take the cover down alittle if need be.

Anger isn't a true oiler. It is a good medium-heavy oil ball.
A Bite or a No Mercy should work well. Both take surface changes well and you'll probably want to change the surface so you can have a true oiler.

Get away from Hammer but still under the Ebonite umbrella, you will have a whole lot more options there.. Momentum Swing and Resurgence from Columbia, those would probably be a better "oiler" that you are looking for you..

Yeah...I would get away from the best balls rolling off the lines in Hop-town too!!!!!!!  The other three brands make great stuff as well but Hammer has some of the best pieces out right now.....The Emerald Vibe ,Psycho, and Venom are all great........

yes but those balls have no worth to him, hammer sucks in the oil department, resurgance, momentum swing, or even a Rising brought down in grit could all work.

Im so glad people are brainwashed to think that TRACK sucks. And its even funnier when im carrying with my TRACK ball and they're going flat ten with their BRUNSWICK ball.

Ok, if the lanes are long or oily, do you want something that will move quick once it does find friction...? Then I would go with a Bite or Venom. Drill it 5-5 1/2" PtoP 2-2 1/2" from val and the MB at 75 degrees.

If you want someting that will try to read sooner but not peter out when it finds friction....then you will want something with a lower RG. The Psycho will work with some surface. Or you can look into the Resurgence or either one of the Momentums. Drill any of those with a 4" PtoP and 3" from val

Hammer has a ball for every condition (except for a cheap spare ball, unless you want to use your Rayzr here too)
There are 3 Heavy oil Hammers, the Anger, the Bite, and the NM.

I'm getting a NM drilled up, and its going to be my medium-heavy ball/go to ball. I had an Anger (just traded it for a Toxic) and I loved mine. It did great on oil. I had a pin under drill (approx. 5 1/2 inches to pap, pin under ring) and I ended up taking the surface to 1000 for PBA shots, but it would handle any oil.
I suggest cleaning your Anger (hot water bath, rejuvinator at proshop, hook again are the best choices) and taking it down a bit to see if it does the trick. Then you could see if you really need a new ball to handle heavy oil.

If you do need a ball to handle heavy oil, I'd take Blue's advice with the Bite layout.

While limiting one's self to one company might be good for the pros, I wouldn't recommended it for amateur bowlers.  Since we aren't getting paid to throw a single company it would only make since to take advantage of the entire bowling arsenal.

I am really impressed with the Momentum Swing for what I have seen and I have read plenty of people who are lighting it up with the Track Uprising

From what I have seen, the Bite in it's box surface is not a true "oiler".  It's too long.  However, I am sure with some surface adjustments, it could be.  Or like someone else suggested, look at the Resurgence from Columbia.

I'm not totally against throwing other stuff. I started with Lane 1(BCB) it was alright, then I went to hammer and liked what I got, ventured off into a couple morich balls(AR,AFIN,Lev Rg). All good but i just feel like hammer gives me the biggest advantage.

I was just recommending whats out there.. From browsing out when I was in Vegas for Teen Masters, I saw many many Resurgences that were truely good rolling balls. I would definatly recommend that. Hammer just does not have any "TRUE" oilers as I am sure any PBA Pro Bowler would tell you. I actually know a regional staff guy, Brett Spangler, for Hammer and he says he cannot wait until Hammer releases their high end balls, he needs something with oil..

I like the NM a lot more than the BITE.  The NM is far more controllable and plenty strong enough for heavy long patterns.  The BITE was hard for me to control on the tough patterns I faced in league.

Aside from Hammer, Storm has the T-Road solid which is an awesome ball for heavier longer patterns.

I currently have a NM but prefer to use my dull blue vibe on the heavier stuff.  In fact, I prefer to use my Blue Vibes on everything! lol
