Review my 4 ball arsenal....
« on: July 24, 2007, 06:14:53 AM »
Here's what i'm thinking:
Heavy:        No Mercy Beat'n
Medium-Hev:   Anger
Medium:       BWP
Lt./Med:      Vibe/Toxic?

As far as drill patterns go I usually will play to the balls strenth. For instance, NMB, heavy roll, good backend. Will then drill it to do so. BWP long and strong, will drill it to do so. Not sure about the Vibe blue or cherry, or the toxic yet...any suggestions?

Pretty sure I've decided to go with the BWP and NMB as the first two. Then I'm going to kind of base the other two on those.

Matt

thats funny I actually will have the same four ball arsenal.

Heavy Oil:  No Mercy Beat'n and going to drill with #1 drilling
Heavy/Med:  Anger, pin it down and between both fingers with CG kicked out.
Medium:  BWP drilled to go long and strong
Light/Med:  Toxic, shined up and drilled exactly the same as anger.

Love all the new hammer stuff.

lol. overall it's worked out well for you? notice any gaps? conditions you don't set up well to (b/c of an arsenal-based reason?)

don't have the No Mercy Beatn drilled yet, but everything is covered pretty good, as long as I keep the polish on the Toxic or else it is pretty strong.

For THS, I don't think 4 balls is really necessary.  I think with the NM Beat'n, BWP, and a light oil ball.

Speaking of the light oil ball...The toxic probably would work, but I would classify it as a true light oil ball.  It's probably closer to the BWP in terms of strength (still a great ball)...but i'd lean towards the Vibe.

I'd probably go with
No Mercy Beat'n / No Mercy
Black Widow
Black Widow Pearl / Toxic
Vibe
Spare

I agree with the fact that 4 balls isn't really neccessary for THS, but I do bowl in quite a few tourneys a year, and I like to be ready for anything, then again, don't want to carry around 12 balls. anyway, appreciate the advice, keep it coming.

That being the case...I think you  are pretty well off.

Though, you might as well round it out and add 1 extra.  My thoughts being is that you have a ball for "Heavy/Med", it would make sense to have another transition ball form "Med/Light"

So an arsenal like this may work better
Heavy:No Mercy / No Mercy Beat'n
Heavy-Medium: Anger / Black Widow
Medium: Black Widow Pearl
Medium-Light: Toxic
Light-Vibe
Spare

No offense, just pure curiosity, how you shine up a ball that already have 4000 + ebonite factory finish?

We have here a bowler that used the BWP and the Toxic with the same drilling. In our house it was like rolling the same ball with different colors. He put the Toxic away after a week, i guess he did not liked the color. Maybe it was our pattern but they roll very similar.

Thank you. I have never try this. Till now, for me polishing a new OOB polished Ball was like killing the ball.

I would choose the vibe over the TOXIC for your arsenal.  Keep in mind that the TOXIC is strong on the back end.  In fact, it's probably very close to the BWP in strength.  The vibe would be a much better fit for light/short patterns.

Your really loading up your arsenal with a great deal of agressive equipment.  I'd keep the beatn' there.  Then I'd have the anger at 4000 or so.  Finally though the BWP is a very good ball, I'd remove it from that slot, and insert the toxic.  Finally for light, the cherry vibe.

In my opinion you could have the balls that you list, but you'd have to expand your arsenal to 5 or 6 balls to cover everything.  Granted with 6 you'd have a wider variety of breakpoint shapes and such to combat a greater variety of shots, but thats up to you.

I currently have the following 3 ball Hammer arsenal:

Heavy: Black Widow
Med: Toxic
Light: Blue Vibe

I'm considering the Anger to give me an earlier look to my Widow.

crusher267658 makes an excellent suggestion.  You should check out the doom as a medium oiler as well instead of the toxic.  The only thing being is that it is discontinued.  They are probably still floating around, but i wanted to suggest items that are readily available.

Chitown also makes a good point that the Toxic is strong in terms of overall hook potential.  What differes between the two for me is that the Toxic pushes a few feet farther down lane and maintains that length even when the shot breaks down...whereas the black widow pearl starts checking up early.

I use both of them and love both of their reactions.  I use the BWP to open, when it starts reading early, I move to the Toxic and move my target back 1-2 boards, or play the same line depending on how bad the lanes are breaking down.  Then I have a Cherry Vibe for the last game if needed.

The BWP is strong enough for me that I'm not considering anything stronger at this point.

Either way-Toxic or BWP...they are both great balls with differing but great reactions.
