Second night w/ the Doom...starting to believe the hype
« on: May 01, 2006, 01:43:11 PM »
This ball is just such a great balance between power and control.  I so often find that a ball has "too" much of one or the other, the Doom seems to be that ball that strikes a balance.  My average is about 165.  Tonight I threw a 235 in the first, clean, a 179 with an open 9th AND 10th (operator error), and a 174 with an open tenth.  If I could pick up some more spares I would have easily had a nice 600+ series.  Trust me, that's a great night for me.    I just love how this ball moves down the lane, how it looks, how it hits like a ton of bricks.  It's also the first time I've been able to use ONE ball for an entire set in awhile!

You describe the Doom perfectly.  A balance between power and control.  What make this ball even more unbelievable is it's a reactive pearl ball.  How many reactive pearl balls are controllable?  Not many.  In fact most reactive pearls are only controllable on certain conditions.  Not the case with the Doom.

I have found that the Doom is controllable on most conditions that I have faced.  Now there has been a couple of really tough patterns that the Doom struggled on.  However every ball in my bag had a tough time with those conditions.

I have always said the Doom has a strong but controllable back end.  This ball is amazing.  I personally feel it's the best reactive pearl ball at any price point.

Now take this reactive pearl Doom and dull it.  Take the polish right off.  A lot of bowlers will say not to dull pearl ball.  I say do it.  What dulling the Doom does is allow the ball to handle more oil and smoothes out the back end a little.  A bowler could buy two Dooms and cover almost all conditions.  That's right almost all conditions from 2 of the same ball.  Now that is amazing.

The Doom is a ball that will be in my bag for a very long time.  It will be hard for Hammer/Ebonite to top this ball.

I just couldn't put the ball down.  If I threw it right, it carried everything.  It was the first time in I don't know how long that I didn't have the inclination or the need to switch to a different ball.
