Switchblade...
« on: May 01, 2005, 04:43:57 AM »
this is a question mostly for all the hammer heads but anyone can reply to this topic...i was thinking of purchasing a switchblade when the lanes start to transition between flooded to medium and so forth...i would like to ask your opinon about it? pin carry? versatility? control? and any other opinion you may have about the ball...and perhaps even drilling layouts for the ball...

You say that u want this ball for transition between heavier to medium? If carry down is going to occur in this transition, this ball is a NO NO. This ball is very skid flippy. In its nature it is supposed to skid until the dry then take off. If carry down is in play, by the time the ball transitions to the dry, there will be no lane left to make its move to the pocket. For this type of condition, i would go for either the Sharp blade, Saw blade, or Blade reactive. Sharp is medium load particle and can handle carry down, it dosnt have a flip block so you will most likley have to square up. Saww has the same weight block as the switch, but has teh light load coverstock of the Deals. This would be a great ball for carry down. Mine is lable drill with the shine taken off and sanded up to 1200 grit, and i usually play deep with it. And the Blade reactive is a great ball. Same core as the Switch and saw but a nice preformance coverstock that is resin. All of the balls i mentioned are more suited for the lane u need them for over the Switch.

I have a switch blade and BowlerKidR is correct here. This ball if very flippy and does not handle the oil well.  I can only use this ball on lanes that have very dry backends!  When the condition presents itself this ball hits very well and gets great pin carry.  Just had a 257 with it on saturday.  I was bowling with some people who were throwing alley balls, i could notice some carry down by the 2nd game and had a harder time getting the ball to snap into the pocket.

On a side note I had my best week ever on friday.  248, 259, 216 = 723!  I won the sweeper too!
