I think the Jet Black will be much too sharp off the spot for The Open Championships pattern. But I have not been down there yet.

Try hitting the cover with 2000 abralon. I have one I did that to after reading it here and then throwing the ball. The original finish was flippy and squirted a little on carrydown when I first tried it. The slightly matt finish created by 2000 made a huge difference. It still easily clears the fronts, yet is a controlled late arc on the back. I just won a tournament Sun. with this ball. I used it start to finish, playing every part of the lane. It is a very versatile piece for me. I am not affiliated with hammer in any way.

I agree. It is a great ball and very versatile and if you are dead set on it being your new purchase you should be very happy. My only concern is match-up at nationals. But if you knock the cover down as the previous poster recommended it should have a better chance of performing down there.

I didn't care for the box surface.   Took it to 4000 and it is pretty versatile.  I waa worried 2000 might be too much surface down there.  Not sure what I have to throw down there

I drilled three new balls for Nationals this year. I drilled two Jet Black Taboos. One pin down CG out about a inch at 2000. The other pin up Cg out at 4000. And a Arson pin up CG out at Box(2000).  Both pin up balls had small holes. Didnt use the pin down ball much. Had better look with both pin up balls. Played closer to the 5 board than in previous years. I left probably 100 sticks in spares. Chopped the 3-6-10 a few times and had very sticky corners for shooting the 10 ten. Good Luck.

I think the Nomad solid will most likely give you the best look of your current arsenal. In my experiences, smoother arcing control pieces work best. Not trying to FIGJAM but I have a career 208 average out there, an award score, and a 792 set. I have usually had some very good looks. Average would be higher except for nursing pretty substantial injuries 2 of the last 3 years out there.

Anyhow, I have an Attitude Shift (very similar cover to your Nomad) with a shorter pin to PAP layout (around 3") that always goes with me there and to any tighter tournament patterns. It is usually money on the Nationals pattern at 2000 Abralon. My specs are in my profile (we are similar in speed/revs).

If you are looking to drill a new ball I would recommend something with R2S solid from Storm. My Attitude is great and guys were killing it with the Special Agent a few years back. Now, that said this years pattern is a but different but generally speaking over the last few years that cover and the Global Eagle/Break/Break Out have had high success rates.

By going with an R2S solid ball with a shorter pin to PAP layout to compliment the Nomad I think you will have a nice 1-2 punch. I notice most of your stuff is longer Pin to PAP and this helps the ball flip/finish on the back. In my opinion, controlling the heads and mids is what works well out there.

Sorry so long winded....hope this helps.
