Vicious Strike
« on: December 22, 2003, 05:59:42 AM »
Got my VS drilled up tonight and I have question. It is being sold as a Particle Pearl, but mine was duller than my Blade Particle...so my pro shop guy (who has been on the pba tour for years upon years) starting thinking that they just didn't "pearlize" the ball or it isn't a true pearl and is a mistake in the labelling of the ball.

Anyone else have a VS and was your box finish pearlized or dull?

I have one and its kind of dull. I also had 2 others and they all looked the same in the box. The ball is still a pearlized particle cover.

well that sucks. I am going to have to polish it up so it won't break at the arrows like it did tonight.

If you wanted a ball that didn't hook at the arrows, you should have bought something else. The strike is a big hooking ball. Its marketed that way and it does hook alot. Just look at the specs and you will see its a ball made to hook.

right, but it is also labelled as a PEARL that will get you through the heads. I didn't even get out of the heads before it was burnt up. If I kept it inside, it skidded and never snapped. If I threw it outside, it punked out worse than my Blade Particle does. I thought the entire concept of it being a Pearl Particle was to get you through the burnt heads and saved it's energy....not take off as soon as it hits the lane. The pro drilled it up to go long. If you look at the hammer sheet, it closest resembles the High RG layout, but with an added weight hole.

What is the point of it even being pearlized if it has none of the the pearl features?

I had my strike drilled up with the pin just to the right of the ring finger with the cg swung out just a tad and the LMB right next to my thumb and its a monster, I love it. It starts hooking early but never quits in med-heavy oil and hits very hard. I am thinking you might have drilled it up wrong for your bowling style, thats just a guess, but I am very happy with my strike..

good luck with yours..

The Power Diesel is the same way it is labelled as a pearl particle venneer. It came kinda dullish. I have no problem with adding polish. I have added 3 coats of Black Magic and some Doc's Elixir both before and after and it gets down the lane. You can also bring up the grit level abit on both of the stated balls to help clear the heads. I'm pretty sure they are  both 800 or 1000 depending on web sites or literature you received or looked at.

I am going to see how the lanes are next week (they were drier than normal last night) and then if I still can't get it to move, I am going to polish it up. The problem I had with it was that it started it's move a little past midlane, but it never finished the move, it just punked out (ala my Blade Particle)...I just attributed this to the lanes being too dry...but I am glad to know that they just didn't forget to pearlize my ball

The strike needs oli to finish, thats for sure. Its just like most other particle balls on the market today, but unlike some other particle balls, the Hammers can be polished rather easily to change the ball reaction. I saw a guy throwing a polished power diesel on my traveling league shot sunday and he was ripping the rack. I am thinking about polishing mine now.

good luck and let us know what happens..

well tonight we had some freshly oiled heads, and the VS got through them no problem. Once I learn to trust it's aggressiveness, I will have more success with it...tonight I threw it my first two games and had a 211 and a 202 (chopped spares in the 10th frame of both games)..changed balls midway through the third game.
