What layout do you have on your BW?
« on: September 29, 2006, 02:12:02 PM »
For those of you that have had great success with the Black Widow, How is your drilled?

I ask this question because I have never had great success with asymmetrical bowling balls.  I know layouts on very critical on asymmetrical balls compared to symmetrical.

So what layout do you have on your BW?

Another question: What kind of lane pattern do you use your BW on the most?  House shot or sport pattern or some other type of difficult pattern?

chitown, I don't have a B/W myself, but drilled three for different folks.

1. Pin/PAP 4" just above and right of ring, mb 2 7/8 right of thumb and approximately 1/8 inch below center of thumb. The first 3 games he bowled he averaged 204. Granted the first game, he said, was a 160 something, the rest were much better. He said it took him a while to get used to the backend and had to find a different line than we usually used.

2. Pin/PAP 4 1/4 above ring, almost centered above, MB 3 1/8 right of thumb just a hair above center thumb. He called and said it was the best ball he'd thrown in years. He didn't say what he averaged, but he was bowling tonight in league, so I'll probably hear about it on Sunday.

3. Pin/Pap 5 1/8 pin above bridge almost centered. MB 2 7/8 right of thumb and maybe 1/8 below center thumb. He shot 21 games the first day, said he averaged over 201 but after 18 games his thumb was sore so he didn't say what he shot those last few. He's ordered another and we'll be talking a different drill on Sunday.

All I can say, those I have done/seen love the ball, even MORE than you do your Dooms ! ( if that is possible! )

I was going to drill mine, but had a relasp of the shoulder separation and cracked my elbow, so I'm probably out for most of the season, so why waste a great ball. Already have it sold, I think.

Hope yours does as well as those I have talked to and others as well.

1. pin 4.5 inches from pap with cg 3 inches from pap and mb kicked 2 inches from the thumb.... pin above ring finger, x hole 4 inches out and 1 inch up...
300 on pba pattern 5, 812 out of box, won firecrackershootout with it

2. pin 5.5 inches from pap, pin below middle finger cg kicked 2 inches from midline with mb 4 inches out from thumb... didnt like this ball at factor, 1000 grit abralon or 2000, so i hit it with 4000 abralon and factory finish polish and shot 279-299-278 = 856 with it

3. pin 5.5 inches from pap 60 degree layout, mb 1.5 inch from thumb... pin above middle finger at factory ... made my first regional cut on pba pattern 5 with this ball.. aggressive backend

the black widow is the best ball on the market and most versatile... i cant wait to get a few more and hopefully a case to stow away for safe keeping... if three is a pearl coming out... i will be in heaven

Pin over bridge and MB 60 degrees from center span.  Cover taken down to 1000 abralon due to low revs.

Pin under ring, MB about 1.5 inches from thumb.  Not sure of PAP distances on this one.  Mine does not cover a ton of boards.  What it does to is smooth out wet/drys and offers me control like no other ball ever has.  The Widow and Epic are pretty much the only balls I throw now.

RH drilled stack, 15# with 2" pin. Pin just aboved ring finger and mass bias about 2 inches from thumb at about 4 o'clock. No weight hole.

3 year old AMF synthetic oiled heavy from 6 to 6 to about 20 feet and buffed to 40. Basically an easy shot especially for stokers who play near the channels.

This is about how my Black widow is set up, the mass bias is about 2-3 inches from my thumb. It has a 3 inch pin and 3oz of top weight. It goes long and as soon as it senses dry it make a hard arc/flip to the hole. As long as I get it close to the hole I carry. Its in box condition but if I pull it it slides a little. I'm thinking about talking the cover down just a little because of that reason. I'm up the back with the ball and tend to roll it early. I'm a lefty, so I really never had a problem not having oil. I used to try and throw particle equipment every chance I got, but I wanted to open up the lane more and realized that reactive is enough for the oil that I run into on THS. I didn't like asymmetric either. My ball driller convinced me that he could drill the widow to give me the reaction I like, and that it would still be controllable. I was leaning toward getting another pain, which I like also. I'm glad I got the widow, it gives me another look on the same lane conditions.

Pin 6" from PAP and 4" above center line, MB at 60-Degrees, with a small deep weight hole on my axis...I left the ball in box condition.

This ball is really unique in that a good number of asymmetric balls will stand up too soon on not be continous for me with pins beyond 5" from my PAP.  The black widow is different for me in the respect and I would have never drilled it this way if it wasn't for the advice of a friend on Hammer's staff.

looks to me like the average 1/8" bridge with a bit of bevel... i dont trust it tho, i always go alittle bigger, as you can see from my pic, not to mention i dont really bevel that much
