What surface is on your RAZYR?
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:29:48 AM »
Got one last week to try out. Seemed to work good in the oob finish, until the outsides dried too much.

Then the ball went into severe over/under mode.  I really liked the reaction shape, and the carry, I was getting, just wondered if anyone had changed their surface and what effect it had.

I was thinking that at 2000 abralon it might handle just a bit more oil, making it possible to move into the oil just a bit without it causing the ball to completely "skid out" like it does now in there, and let me bump it out with recovery.

I have no doubt if you take it down to 2000 you would get it to handle more oil, but why would you. The razyr is supposed to be a light oil ball, if you got oil, why not use something heavier that is designed for that?

tizzle, he wants it for dry lanes but he doesn't want it to over-react off of the dry when the outsides dry up even more. 2000 Abralon might be a touch too strong, I'd say take a 4000 abralon pad to it so you can take the shine off and you should be good to go

if your just trying to eliminate over under  , 2000 ab would elminate it but erase the balls purpose.

OOB the ball is 4000 Ab+polish
Why not take it down to 1000 or 500 ab+plus polish?

Yeah guys, I just really need to smooth the reaction out some, but with my release, altering the cover usually translates into more total hook.

Given that, the 2000 ab was a suggestion from me to allow me to use the more total hook by playing in a little more volume where the shot would be more stable.

This thing is STRONG off the dry for me, so I was also thinking I might be able to keep it a bit inside the truly drier outside line.  It is still too much ball for the truly dry outsides on our synthetic lanes here.

Where the oil line was, the ball overhooked/hooked early outside of that line, but was lazy/late inside of it, while trying to swing it inside out was very unpredictably hit-and-miss.

I have one with OBB and one 2000.  Got a 300 with each ball.

I only bowl on house shots, so "heavy" oil on a house shot is still a house shot.

Never tried it on a sport shot yet.

I agree, but oob makes it TOO oil sensitive for me, that is the problem I was wanting to work on.

If altering the surface would do that, it would be great.

after many games the OOB surfface has dulled down a little with a little bowling wear... the snap on the backend is dulled a little but it seems to be rolling just a pinch earlier

Taking it down does not defeat the purpose.  Mine is at 1000 @ with polish.  It smoothed out the back end and the polish helped it get down lane.  Tremendous, underrated dry lane ball.  I am also looking to buy another.  Is "smoothed" a word?

According to this, smoothed, is indeed, a word. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/smoothed

I also have alot of hand and trouble with my house shot on wood lanes.
Can't keep much on my side.
This ball is skid flippy speed sensitive obb
I took mine to 1000 ab and then some light polish, now its awesome.
Still over reacts if you don't throw it right, but way more predictable.
I need to know where this thing is going and oob it was just ridiculous how far  down the lane it would go and how much it would turn the last 10 feet or so.
I have had better luck with my yellow dot, always know where its going and alot of the time on the THS, less angle carrys better, have had multiple honor scores with it. just my .02 worth

Thanks Dave, sounds alot like whats happening to me. Thing is, I've tried regular urethane and there is too much volume for that or plastic.

The RAZYR tries, but just isn't enough surface oob on the oil line, and too much outside it in the dry.
