Blood Diamond
« on: August 08, 2013, 07:28:15 AM »
so my buddy just picked 1 up off eBay, we went last night to get it drilled & throw a few games. very cool looking ball w/ the gold sparkles in the cover.
it was just after a doubles league so there was still a decent shot out.
he threw 6 games w/ it and avg. around 255 w/ an 11 in a row 279 last game. he threw thumbless up 5 and the ball not only hit the pocket but crushed it, it was amazing to watch that ball hit. I have the red XXXL and love it.
the diamond was 16lb 7 oz before drilling, haven't seen a ball that heavy since the 80's

Blood Diamond is a new Lane Masters release. Are you posting in the wrong forum or do you have the wrong name for the ball he was using?

Lane #1 had a Blood Diamond for a year before Lane Masters came out with it's "Red Diamond". It's a clear Polyester ball with a red diamond shaped core.

But this one must have some HUGE finger holes in it to take 7 oz out and make it legal to use.

That's exactly what I was thinking.........and that 7oz's is just to get it to the max weight that is allowed.

Isn't that ball called the Red Diamond, Doug?

Not trying to be a wise guy, but who's going to care?
No one is going to ask him to have it weighed unless he takes it to Nationals. Even then they might not be doing that any more, in the near future.

I wonder how many thousands of 16 lb. normal balls (resin) have already absorbed more than an ounce of oil and over that same limit?

You are right about that charlest! I see balls being used all the time that wouldn't make weight at Nationals.

I did get a good laugh in Reno this year though, there was a plastic spare ball(Vis-a-ball) that was being "adjusted" at the scales.  ;D ;D

I don't disagree with you.  Likely no one would ever know or care.

I wouldn't throw equipment that isn't according to regulation specs out of personal pride (?) (for lack of a better term).....but.........to each their own.  I suppose if I were throwing a ball 16.5 lbs against someone in a bracket etc......if THEY knew I was, in that case I'd think they have a pretty legitimate argument against me.

But 7oz's is a lot to take out still, assuming one would care about something like that.

I wouldn't throw balls I knew were illegal either but then obeying the "rules" seems to be passe these days,. Most people figure they're getting screwed by someone somewhere along the line AND they can do anything they want that makes them feel like they're "evening out the score".

Lots of judges, lawyers, salesmen/women and many others in a professional capacity may never do anything illegal but they regularly do things that are both unethical, immoral and illicit, i.e. just plain wrong, yet their conscience is clear. I don't understand how they can live with themselves.

You and I are just too old-fashioned and behind the times.

/rant off (sorry I got carried away.)

Yes, even if you took out 3 - 5 ounces with a Switch grip and inserts and a huge weight hole, there's still 2 more ounces to remove before it's legal. I'd bet $100 right here and now that that ball is illegal right this second. But, again, who cares?

was not my in-tension to start any controversy  over legal/illegal equip.  if he does use it it will just be a 10 pin ball or fried lane ball.   my view on it is that it should have never left the factory @ that weight. if you purposely did something to the ball like put lead weights in a hole & plugged it to try and cheat then that is a issue.
