My First Saw
« on: July 28, 2003, 07:06:51 PM »
I recently picked up a used XL.  I finally got around to getting it plugged an drilled, and I used it in league for the first time last night.  Well, I'm impressed.

I'd been having trouble all summer getting the ball to the breakpoint because of the heads burning up after about 1 game, and the really dry track area that's always there.  After struggling for several weeks with my Vengeance, Pearl Menace, and Big Hit Pearl, I finally got around to giving the XL a try.

This ball is layed out with the pin just above the ring finger and the cg in the grip, which equates to about a 5 X 5.5 for me.  0 side weight and 1/2 ounce finger weight, and the surface is at 2000 grit matte.

This ball really gets down the lane nicely and makes a strong flip at the breakpoint.  I started out playing from 17 at the arrows to a breakpoint at 8 and shot 265 the first game after splitting in the first frame.  The second game I had a dummy attack and didn't follow the transition correctly and ended up only shooting 168 after a couple splits and a chopped 3,6,10.  The third game I got lined back up at 19 at the arrows and a breakpoint of 10 with more speed and a more up the back release for a clean 249.

This ball is so flippy at the breakpoint, but it never seems to be over-under as you would expect.  Carry was excellent.  I can only recall one 10 pin and one 4 pin on quality shots.  Everything else that was close put 10 in the pit.

I'm not quite ready to become a Buzzhead yet, but I definitely got a good first impression.
