Question..
« on: July 03, 2003, 10:08:25 AM »
Ok guys well finally after a long time of wanting to try a saw i finally have one. I have the cherry Bomb and DANG is all i have to say. This thing just plain flat out has backend reaction and HITS.. Now i have a question though. As i love this thing and is now my favorite ball what could i get with less hook and less backend reaction.. Say the same shot and oil as cherry bomb but i want to play more straight up..Sometimes my cherry bomb is coming back way to much and i dont always like to swing the whole lane.. What do you lane 1 nuts out there suggest for me if i was gonna get another saw?

Specs are in profile..

Allstar, I would guess the Silver Diamond would serve your needs.  It lets you play the lanes a lot straighter but still has the backend movement.  Ultimate skid flip would be the Cherry Pearl.  A ball in between the Cherry Bomb & Silver would be the Pearl Carbide Bomb but I think the Pearl Carbide would overlap a little with the Cherry, just starts sooner with a different shape.

Haven't used the Cherry Bomb yet, waiting until I can steal one off of Shaggy.  Just basing my observations off of what I've seen out of the Lane 1 line up.

Yes this thing is exactly what you said, i mean i bet it ould go through carrydown too!! This thing just flat out MOVES.. Id like something that if i needed to could have more control if the shot asked for it..LIke if i needed to be more acurate..Im pretty accurate when i swing it but im much more accurate when i do have to..So if the lanes are tight i could just play straight up pretty much and still score. Thanks for the advice, anybody else have any say on this?

Maybe an Emerald with a control drilling?  I think a Pro Purple would be perfect, if you can still find one.

I don't have a Cherry Bomb (yet), but I just picked up a used Pro Purple, and from the way you and others describe the reaction of the Cherry Bomb, I think the Pro Purple's milder-but-still-strong reaction might be what you're looking for.

Nah leftside i cant get rid of those, ill just have to redrill them i guess.. Maybe the savage can give me more control than the cherry..I dont know..I love the hit but like today in league i had to swing it from 35-5 and back and if i let up on the speed i had a bad mess to take care of. I just want a ball that doesnt hook more than 30 boards.

Have you tried taking some Scotchbrite to the Green Gargoyle?  It makes it usable on more conditions.

The Emerald would be good, and I would definitely consider the Silver or the Viper (both of which I have myself).

Although we have talked personally several times I'll put my 2 cents out here....

The Viper is a great control ball...too bad all of those type of balls seem to be getting discontinued these days...smooth across the whole lane and then a smooth arc into the pocket.

The Silver Diamond has more drive built into the core...longer but snappier than the Viper.

The XL is also a good drier lane ball..will arc more than the Silver, not as much as the Viper

The Emerald (IMO) will react more than any of the other 3 and have the snappiest reaction of the bunch.

That's my opinion....and I am sticking to it.

I would suggest in this order.  XL, Silver, then Emerald.
The balls are all different.  XL and Emerald carry better for me and I have the same ball speed as you.  Silver Diamond hits like a urethrane and can be condition specific.
