Straight Flush so far ...
« on: September 04, 2006, 11:20:32 AM »
I got mine about 3 weeks ago. I drilled it like I would any pancake cored ball these days: roughly 3/4 ounce side and 3/4 ounce finger. Top weight started at 3 1/4; since thumb and finger insert holes, for me, remove about 2 - 2 1/4 ounce, my final top should be around 1 ounce.

I tried it in my SUmmer league, after drying things out a bit; since they start with true medium and only go down to meidum-light after league's end, it never did more than wrinkle there. Totally unusable except as a spare ball. As a reference, my Dyno-Thane Barrage and my Brunswick Slay/R hooked more. SLay/R more than Barrage more than St. Flush. Slay/R is usable but not good on this condition AND it is my spare ball.

Yesterday, Sunday, I practiced with a friend up North and the lanes were dry enough on Sunday afternoon (big surprise, right? ) to get a good feel for the Straight Flush.

I wasn't totally familair with the oil pattern in this house, but it is a very easy house blend shot, normally. One can use many balls for relatively simialr reaction. My friend used balls like a solid particle Diesel to a lightly sanded Rampage to get a simialr ball path. I played inside with a polished solid resin PK 18 ball and outside with the Slay/R (12 at arrows out to 8 at breakpoint).

Anyway, around 9 - 10 board, was the oil area (there was no more "oil line"; too many games). 5 board was definitely dry. I could go straight up 10 board with the SF with decent speed (16/17 at the foul line). When I tried to "hit" the ball with a little extra zing, I played 10 out to 6. However, if I pulled the ball inside, say hitting inside of 10 at the arrows and not swinging it outside, No matter how hard I revved the ball, it moved no more than 2-3 boards and left either the 2 pin or the bucket (2/4/5/8).

Hitting power is good/average, by resin standards. Nothing special but certainly better than urethane. (That reminds me, since moving up to 16 lb I no longer have the Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle to compare it to. That would be an interesting, VERY interesting comparison.) The idea, in any case, on very dry lanes is to get to the pocket. Anything else is gravy.

This ball is probbaly the least hooking resin ball I have used in the last 10 years. It needs dry and LOTS of it before it makes its move.

Generally length was about 35 feet no more, before it started to hook. A VERY controlled hook, of course. That is very like pancake cores.  If you have more ball speed than I and/or more revs, your mileage may vary.

I was worried about this ball (coverstock: Evolution Reactive), given that it's supposed to have the Buzz's coverstock (Evolution Pearl). From many reports that ball has a huge backend.

You need a new ball, not a re-surface!
