the answer????
« on: October 02, 2007, 01:22:01 PM »
I got this ball used and i am plugging it and going to redrill it.  What ball is this ball comparible to?  Ive never used a lanemasters ball before.  What would be a good drill for this ball?  Thanks for any help you can give me!

There were several version of this ball. one was a good Particle pearl, one hooked VERY little, like a plastic ball and another was a urethane (I believe).

If you have the Particle Pearl, it should act something like the Storm Pyro.

The intended particle Pearl was a very good ball.

It is the pearl particle ball.  Ive been working in my local proshop learning the ropes and thought since i had this ball sitting around id put a drill on it for some practice.  I just didnt have any clue about the balls performance.

For me the answer ( particle Pearl) was the biggest piece of crap I ever had in my hands never could get a fill for that ball one time it would hook the next time it would not I believe though it had alot to do with the layout on it and the driller that drilled it I have been thinking about giving LM another shot but just real leary after the Answer which was the only LM I have used

They're all marked "Particle pearl"; I think some were other than that.

You may have had the same problem I did. I cannot tell.
I drilled it twice (2 different drillings) and I used at least 3 different surfaces and tested each in at least 2 different houses, under several different oil patterns. About the best results I got was about 2 more boards of hook than my polyester Columbia Blue Dot.

I called Lanemasters and explained what I did and how I tried to get some decent ball reactions out of it, after being recommended by another ballreviews person. Lanemasters was super nice and offered to send me one of their two newest balls, either a New Standard or a Yeah Baby! (This was 3+ years ago.) I chose a Newe Standard and have been hooked ever since.

No ball "dies". Their performance is reduced and you must rejuvenate it. It will "live" again.

Still my favorite; have 3 of them. There's more hanging around; just look for them on internet sites, here and Ebay.

If you can't find an NS, look for an NS2. Slightly heavier load of particles, higher RG for more length, same core and same differential: slightly stronger ball (more hook and needs slightly more oil). You can always add a touch of fine sanding (4000 grit) or a light touch of polish. I tried a used one and liked it; now looking for a new 16 lb one.

Slightly heavier?  I thought the NS was a light-load while the NS2 was a heavy load.  As much as I like my YB, I wouldn't mind trying an NS2.  Not a lot of high-load particle balls that need less than soup and I like the reaction I get from my YB.  Unfortunately I just bought two new balls and a new 4-ball roller in just over a month.

Yes, it has a heavy load vs the NS's "technically" light load, BUT the essential is the ball reaction and basically, the NS2 is not that far from the NS. It handles only slightly heavier amount oil and is still very much a control ball.

Personally, I have yet to compare the YB to the NS2, but both are disontinued. There are only so many hours in the day and so much money in the till.

OK, I like both the NS2 and the YB. I have not tried both in every comparable surface and drilling combination. Sorry ...

Always the case, eh?  Kind of a bummer, really.

Then what are we paying you for?    I trust you'll get right on that.
