What do you like about lanemasters
« on: November 07, 2007, 04:27:35 AM »
Hello all, i have never thrown lanemasters, but i am really considering giving them a shot.  I hear the balls last a long time and do not crack etc.  Also heard they use all symmetric cores.  Wanted to see what everyone thinks of their lanemasters balls compared to other companies.  Also what are two balls you would recommend the most to give a try.  Looking for one ball for fresh oil considering something like a big r bang, and one for lighter oil considering the buzz...

Your thoughts.

Thanks

I really love my two Lanemasters balls, the Yeah Baby and Big-R-Bang.  The YB seems kind of unique in that it's a high-load particle ball but not a heavy oil ball, though I would guess that at 400-grit it would handle some pretty soupy conditions.  It absolutely ignores carrydown.  My BRB is more of a medium to medium-light piece, it's at 1000-grit instead of the OOB high polish.

Like you said, the longevity is a big bonus for me.  I can't buy a dozen (or even a half-dozen) balls a year, so I expect them to last a long time.  Symmetric cores are simple, I don't have to worry about a strong asymmetric being too sensitive to release changes or being drilled just for me (got my two LM balls used and kept the layouts).

I'd say the hit is fantastic, but really, all balls hit when used on the proper conditions.  They do hit hard, though.

I like the goodies that come with them, though that's only true now with the Legends line.

Without a profile, it's hard to recommend something, but for a fresh medium shot, the Buzz or BRB should do nicely.  If the shot is more on the heavier side of mediums, something like the World Class Particle Pearl.

I thrown a couple of them (Hornet, Buzz) for a couple of weeks now and here are my observations.

- The increased hitting power that's advertised is no joke.
- They don't track up nearly as fast as other equipment.  There is one house   in Tucson that has a really nastry lane surface that tracks up bowling balls like no other.  But with a Lanemasters ball, it looks like a regular night of bowling.
- You have to be a little patient because they don't track up as fast, it takes longer to burn a track in them, which can be a good thing or a bad thing.
- At least the Hornet and the Buzz have a more continuous move off of the friction as opposed to a snap like some of the Storm balls I've thrown in the past.  This can be a very good thing, especially on wet/dry conditions, but I haven't gotten used to the ball reaction on these yet.

These are just some observations after about 3 weeks with a Hornet and a week with a Buzz.  I see definite potential with these balls, but I've got to throw them a little more before giving a more definite answer.

I only have one ball from them, the World Class particle, and it is a very good ball.  As already stated here, the longevity of these balls is wonderful and the hitting power is great.  There is just a different sound when these balls hit the pins.

They are expensive; so if you think you would like to try one, I STRONGLY advise getting a used one with one or two redrills. These ball have good longevity and with a 2nd drill, they will go for less money but will still carry.

FYI they do get oil logged like every other brand but they just seem to take longer to do that.

They are better than most but they are not ... invulnerable.

FYI It sounds like I am putting them down, but I am not. I really like them; I am just warning you about the negatives.  They are there; so be aware of them. Otherwise they hit harder than average and they last MUCH longer than average.
In my opinion ..

I agree with Charlest here. Best to do as he advises ang try a used one if possible. I'll use myself as an example. I bought both the WCP & WCR new. I had some good games at times with them, but day in and day our, they never matched up very well to me and I sold both. Big loss considering the inital costs. Then I did buy a used Buzz. One day I like it and the next day I don't. At the moment it is sort of condition specific for me. Just not an everyday ball for me like some balls are. If I decide to sell it, I am only out $50 this time and not $200 per ball like I am on the WCP & WCR.

And finally I also bought a Black Pearl new and so far, after a couple of surface adjustments, it is performing better and I plan on keeping it....for a while anyhow. To sum it up, I have only found 1 ball in 4 that I am somewhat happy with. 3 new ones and 1 used one. Total investment....$600 for the 3 new balls and $50 for the used ball for a total of $650 and only 1 definite keeper. Had I bought all used ones, I would only have approx. $200 invested in these 4 balls vs the $650 that I actually have invested.

Seeing as your buying your first LM/Legends ball a used ball is an excellent choice. It is possible that LM/ Legends wont match up with your style (but I doubt it!) My first ball was the Yeah Baby I bought used. That ball was so perfect for me I went ahead and bought a new one that is still sitting in my closet waiting for the day my used one decides to die. I bought a new Black pearl at Reno and wish I would have tried a used one first. It just doesnt match up well with my style and lane conditions I have been on. Anyway, I wish you gret success usong LM/Legends equipment. I really like the way these balls seem to last forever.

I bought the Big Bang 6  months ago and it is the best ball i've had in 46yrs of bowling. With plenty of oil and and good backend which is what we all want this ball has been awesome for me.I play down and in anywhere between 6 to 12 board i have it drilled to go long and finish hard and thats what it does, the hit and mix is unbelievable i've moved my ave up from a 205 after 30 odd games to a 217 after 100 games which is no mean feat for anyone. I'm a stroker not a lot of revs but this ball just performs time after time and has never let me down so much as i'm picking up another one this weekend and have to sort out another drilling for it not sure what i'm having yet.I can shine it, dull it for different conditions and still get the same results time after time. So i will be sticking with Legends for the forseeable future if all of their balls are similer to this one.
