Where will this fit???
« on: May 28, 2007, 12:50:16 PM »
I am just wondering where a Big Kahuna will fit in my arsenal, I bought it used but still have never thrown it yet as I need to redrill it.
Current arsenal:
Special Agent-Heavy
Epic Saga-Med Heavy
Venus-Medium
Neptune-Medium Light-toast

Any thoughts?

It'll probably fit (in its stock form; since you bought it used, who knows where it is now?) just below the Special Agent.

Mine, in stock form, worked from medium to almost medium-heavy oil.

It has the original diamond particles, in a low flaring core. Although its stock finish is called sheen, in common bowling terms, it's probably equivalent to about a 1200 - 1500 grit matte finish. If sanded to 800 - 1000 grit, it'll handle lots of oil for average rev bowler with average ball speed, when drilled with an average pin position (not strong, not weak). Because iot flares less than the Special Agent, it will hook less overall, but still handle as much oil, again, when roughed up as indicated above.

With a 4" pin to PAP, as one of mine had (I've used 2 of them), it was almost flippy on medium+ oil. Very strong move at the breakpoint, providing lots of pin action.

In stock form it will, should handle slightly more oil than the Saga in its stock polished finish, but the BK will cover less boards. (Saga is generally a big hooking ball).

One note:
While Legends balls seem to me to last longer than average, they will still over time absorb oil and need some kind of oil extraction procedure. Their coverstocks, especially the ones like the BK, are very durable and seem to track out VERY slowly.

Second and last note:
To truly affect the Diamond particles (if you want to change the cover's finish), you need either Trizact pads or Haus Diamonds pads for the Haus machine. Wet/dry sandpaper and Abralon pads will do a great job on the base resin (in which the particles are imbedded) and will definitely change the ball reaction, but not as much as the Trizact and the Haus pads will.

See the Lanemaster website for the actual finishing procedure for the BK and other Legends balls.

While Lanemasters makes all excellent balls, for me, the Legends balls are the cream of the crop and I have had my best expereinces with them. The BK is discontinued, but I still have both a 15 lb one (for when I get older or weaker) and my current 16 lb one.

Sorry to be so ... blabby.
