World Class Pearl Particle vs. Black Pearl
« on: September 16, 2007, 10:26:38 AM »
Has anyone thrown both of these yet?  If so, how close are they and would I benefit fromt the WCPP?  I own a Black Pearl and was looking for something new to buy since my birthday is tomorrow.  I can pretty much pick up a couple of balls if need be, was also considering the Sting.  My pro-shop guy cuts better deals on multiple purchases if I decide to buy two or more(maybe a Big-R Bang will be in the mix too).

Pat,
IMHO the Sting is a MUST !!!

BTW, I'm not sure about the WCPP vs the BP; I'm figuring the cores will define the difference in the shape of theor respective reactions ...

I'm having trouble with my Sting, I purchased it about four weeks ago and the in heavy oil it doesn't do much and in the other house, dry on the outside and wet from 10 to the middle, it doesn't do much either.  I called Legends today, spoke with Galen and he said there are two options, use the burgundy pad and scuff it or polish with 4000 abralon pad.  I'm going to scuff it, on a spinner with the pad.  He said, the scuffed one on the machine out hooked the Black Pearl and the Terminator.  I have my Sting, pin above ring finger and with the wet dry conditions, it's a struggle. This ball (The Sting) may be more shot specific, than an overall ball.  I also have a Terminator and it moves more than the Sting!

You're an experienced Lanemasters user. Pin above makes them act like a 1/2 notch weaker ball, in my experience, but then my PAP is not up or down ... 5" over. period.

The polished stock surface of the Sting is NOT for heavy oil like the Conqueror or the Terminator. It is for medium, at a minimum up to, maybe, medium-heavy, depending on hand and drill. Thus, your results and Galen's suggestion are ... unsurprising. Perhaps the lenght of the heavy oil was just too much for the Sting???

I don't think, yet, that the Sting's utility is shot specific, as others have found it ... useful, to say the least. I think, perhaps, that your expectations were too high, even for an excellent Lanemasters ball.

I have yet to try a Sting (perhaps this is a major penalty in your accepting my comments); I am still having too much fun and too many good results with a polished New Standard and a standard Big Kahuna, which cover the Sting's usability for oil handling, as near as I can determine.

FWIW the Sting is not a replacement for the Terminator; I think they can be "goto" balls for medium to medium-heavy and medium-heavy to heavy oil. May I suggest, lightly scuffing the Sting AND the Terminator to achieve these parameters???

As always, best of luck.
