World Class R.....Am I The Only One Using It?
« on: November 05, 2006, 07:51:07 AM »
From the lack of reports on the World Class R, it appears to me that there must not be any love for this ball. Am I the only one on this site that seems to like it and using it?

Is there no love for this ball and if not why?

Is the Big R Bang a better ball than the World Class R?

Or is one of these balls just an overlap of the other in terms of performance?

What is the difference between what each of these balls does?.....Note, not from the ball charts, but from actual hands on experience of anyone that may have used both.

Just wondering why the World Class R hasn't seemed to be a very popular ball from day one.

For me it is a great ball on older wood lanes like there are in one house I bowl in, but not as good on the synthetics I bowl on in another house. Could this be why it is not a preferred ball with people in that it doesn't perform as well on synthetics for people like myself?

One reason may be that by the time this ball works for many people (medium to medium-heavy oil), they are used to and already have solid resins or even particle balls (pearls or polished solids) that work as well or better.

The Big-R-Bang goes longer and is probably usable on less oil solely because of its length.

Heck, my Masterpiece, considered milder than the BB reactive OR the WC reactive, needs TRUE medium or longer oil to work effectively! That is the main reason I haven't tried the WC-R or the BB-R. Waste of money.

Medium-light to light conditions required for me, Jim.

Same for me (med-light).  On a true medium I have to play a down and in.

My Masterpiece seems to really rev up off my hand a really jumps off the dry.  The World Class R doesn't seem to rev as quickly and tends to arc off the dry for me, with a smoother roll.  Both balls are drilled similarly.

dR3w,
Not surprising ... from what I've been told by Pat Duggan at BowlingBallMall (Anne Marie is on "L/LM" Staff) and Galen Gentry at Legends, the MP core tends to/likes to "stand up" quite quickly (check out the core shapes below).

I was wondering the same thing about this ball.  I have one that I like quite a bit; in fact if fits in the same spot as my Tsunami H20, which is my favorite ball.

Just for a little variety I have been throwing the WCR in place of the Tsunami with very similar reaction and results.

I love that this ball has a shine and I can still control the backend.  This is a pretty predictable, arcy ball that offers a little more push down the lane than a ball with a dull cover.

I wrote a post about my first impressions regarding this ball, got one reply, and determined that for whatever reason this ball slipped under the radar.  I call it my "sleeper", because no one around my area throws anything from L/L.  They all wonder what I am throwing.

Some say the WCR is ugly because it is brown/bronze.  I think it is a good looking ball and I am impressed by how little wear and tear it has shown so far bowling on both wood and synthetics.

for me the world class reactive with its big core loves oil. If my world class is turning at different lengths i can go to the WCR knowing where exactly down the lane its gonna start making its move. but to me it hooks only a board or two less than the original. but thats cause of the way i have them laid out that way to be similar. I know i'll be able to use it at the high roller in february.

Thanks for the responses everyone. It looks like there are a few World Class R's being used out there and also that between the two balls I think I chose the right ball for me by using Galen's advice.

world class/r is great lighter medium pattern ball, for me the big r bang is early but i am working on the right surface prep. I have not thrown the BRB since changing it again, the Black Pearl is ball worth looking into for you Jim. I like it already and out of the box it is ddialed in for me like the world class/r was.

Barry, I have been looking at it for a couple weeks or so. Just haven't convinced myself if I should get one or not after reading some of the bowlers comments here about it's great strength, too much strength, etc. for a pearl. I was looking at it for the synthetic house with the new Brunswick Anvil Synthetic Lanes of which I bowl in, to fit in behind my World Class P for when the lanes start breaking down and it starts hooking a bit early.

When that happens, I usually "stick it out" with the World Class P or switch to my Absolute Inferno. The problem with the Absolute Inferno in this house is that it seems to handle the lanes great but won't carry the 10 Pin and the World Class R isn't enough ball for for me for that condition. I haven't tried any surface changes on the Absolute Inferno because it works good in the wood lane house when my World Class R doesn't work there. I keep wondering if the Black Pearl would do the trick as well as replacing my Absolute Inferno in this house and that is what is holding me back from getting one at the moment.

Yes absolute and Black Pearl would be very close in strength, the absolute would be generally more flippy than the BP. I think BP is better choice for you over the BRB which so far is stronger than advertised, so if Pat Duggan says that is weaker out his way all the power to him. I suspect my ball is from a run that is far stronger than advertised and after 800 balls in the last 7 years i think i would know what i am talking about. The BRB oob was hooking at my feet on lighter mediums and keeping up with Columbia Action Max and Infinite One's on medium/heavy fresh shots. I have since played with the cover and have not thrown it, i will throw it again sometime when score does not matter.

So take it for all its worth another guy not throwing on your shot or region which all play different. I see alot of guys get slammed all the time on here that might be seeing a totally different reaction, remember nobody throws the ball the same or most likely is on the same pair as you with the same ball surface and pap drillings when you roll a ball.

So all these hot shots staffers and other pro shops mean well but honestly have no clue of what they are saying. Unless they are with us have the same style, rev rate etc they are making generalized comments, maybe what they see is different but too say we all nuts is just showing they have something to gain or prove. Like more ball sales or defend there brand too its death, too me its is quite funny. I welcome all comments too my PM if you have a problem with my ideals and thought bring it on per say thx-Barry
