[rant]carry
« on: March 14, 2009, 04:10:18 PM »
Is anyone else out there sick of going to a tournament and rather than having a bowling tournament, it's a freakin' carry contest?

Whoever straps on the best carry-shoes wins?

I'm so tired of being beaten by 4 or 5 or 6 strikes in a row folded through the nose/brooklyn with only 1 flush in the hole. I understand that my carry is my fault. Yes, sometimes you just get a bad break, it happens, but when you're consistently not carrying, you're doing something wrong. I'm just saying I'm tired of being beaten because I drew the wrong guy and he goes 150 before facing me, then folds 18 strikes in one game against me through the freakin beak, then shoots a nice 129 the next match.

Anyone with me?

I've seriously gotten to the point where I don't even want to bowl anymore because I'm literally afraid I'm going to get humiliated and destroyed by someone who couldn't hit the pocket if you paid them!

Sigh

Thats why you bowl regionals and sport shot tourneys.  Money may not always be the greatest but the best bowler that day will win

I haven't had your exact problem but I do feel your pain.  I've bowled on nothing but house shots in tournaments this year.  Granted I won one of them(a team tourney), it'd still be nice to actually bowl a tournament like you said.  It's hard to have a legitimate complaint because the good bowlers are still placing and winning, it's just that it'd be nice to see the talent put to more of a test.  This means a lot coming from me because I'm really not that good compared to the bowlers that usually do place, especially in JBTs.

i have the same problem but im a stroker and dont throw pins around. i average close the same as i do on ths and sport shot so i usually go for the sport tournies but the pepsi this tournament is on ths and im bowling scratch finally so i need to carry then.

Im so glad people are brainwashed to think that TRACK sucks. And its even funnier when im carrying with my TRACK ball and they're going flat ten with their OTHER BRANDS ball.

I laugh at these topics. You sound exactly like one of my buddies with your rant. Its understandable that things may go someones way and they may get some luck, it happens. In bowling though there is no defense and you just have to perform, if things like that happen there isn't much you can do besides bowl your best, normally people who worry and complain about what others do are the ones with suspect mental games. I strongly suggest you just keep your head up, work on your game and scoring to the best of your abilities and seeing what happens in the end, there isn't anything you can do besides bowl your own game and worry about your own game.

Luck of the fall sometimes.  I don't hate because sometimes, just when you really need it, you will get that carry.  It may be a light pocket hit, you may get the 70-10 with 2 messengers taking both out.  In the end, it still comes down to the bowler.

If I'm not carrying, then I adjust or change balls.

same here. i cringe as house shot tournaments because i cant carry on a house shot. if i play tooo deep i have to make sure i get it out to about 4 and if i get it in it barely touches the head pin. if i play straighter theres a lot of over under. once i find a line then i dont carry enough to make a cut. one tournament this year i missed an 840 cut(4 games)missing the pocket 5 times all of qualifying

No, I didn't go to Pepsi because I'm sick of the California Youth USBC, they never oil between squads. Sorry, I'm not bowling a third shift, burnt tournament shot with 1,000 games on it. I'm not paying/traveling for that when I can do it cheaper and without traveling right here. Just wait til after both leagues are done and bowl at 11:30. Plus, I was at JBT (bad idea).

As far as going to sport shot tournaments, I live in a town that (literally) refuses to put out a sport shot for tournaments because everyone wants to bowl on walled-up China and inflate their averages. The last time we had a sport shot tournament here in town, I won it.

Can't afford regionals...or believe me, I'd be bowling them.

I feel for you. I hate bowling house shot tournaments. I can go to any THS tournament over here and average anywhere from 210 to 230+. I haven't won a tournament on a house shot in over a year and I go to a tournament almost every weekend. But as soon as they put out a sport shot, I can win that tournament 90% of the time. It's amazing to see kids on the house shots though. They will have maybe 10 good pocket shots in 6 games, but go brooklyn or through the nose and trip in every split known to man. Then these kids will come out on top and think they are god. The very next tournament will be on sport shot and they average 150 or below, miss every spare they leave and hit the headpin 10 times. I was at a tournament today, where it was a Junior Gold Qualifier. I averaged 220 on the house shot and missed the pocket 1 time out of 6 games. The kid that was on my pair tripped no less than 7 splits like 6-7-10s or 7-10s. Then the kid that won averaged 230 by throwing it as hard as he could and was going through the nose everytime. I'm not really complaining though. It my decision to bowl in house shot tournaments. I always say I never will bowl in another one, but always end up going to them when there isn't a sport shot tournament running.

Bidwell didn't even shoot 600?!?

That'd be what I would be talking about too, if I had gone!

I dont bowl JAT, I dont have enough time to focus more on bowling. I play high school baseball and the only days I have free are sundays. I've thought about going to a couple of the JAT tournaments that have been close by when I've been free, just haven't had alot of time

Ah, you should come out sometime.

1. what's your average?
2. where do you live?
3. what's your home field (bowling alley)?
